Dr Macken is a great doctor. Good luck seeing him. Have had an appointment scheduled for over 8 months, it was supposed to be late August. NW called me to say he was no longer available and to call back to reschedule. I call and the next available appointment with Dr Macken is next May. I request a nurse to call me, they say they will within 48 hours…no call. This is not the first time that has happened. Getting a response on their MyNM app is hit or miss at best. Refill extensions have been a phone tag nightmare. The list keeps growing. My initial care was great. I am starting to look into other hospitals.

This review is for Northwestern Hospital's Downtown ED and Nuerology Department as my experience involves both. I requested to speak with hospital "leadership" after multiple misdiagnoses, and they scheduled the call with Dr. Bruce Cohen who is not part of hospital leadership but part of the nuerology department. It's important to note this dr has not treated me personally, but attended a call with me this afternoon to discuss the multiple misdiagnoses that stemmed from Northwestern Hospital's downtown campus ED which resulted in a delay of care. He tried to tell me that even though I presented to the ER with 6th cranial nerve palsy, spasticity, double vision, and was taking a TNF inhibiting medication that can cause MS, he is defending the hospital for missing the correct MS diagnosis when they decided NOT to test for bands in my spinal fluid, instead focusing on infectious processes only (even worse- actually TREATED me with antiviral medications when I did not have a virus). I was initially told I had a "migraine" and was sent home (even though I said multiple times that I did not even have a headache that day). I was then told then next day when I had to come back to the ED on my accord that I had "aseptic meningitis" and was admitted to the hospital, treated with antivirals, and told it will "take time" for my vision to recover and that steroids were not an option. Wrong, wrong, and wrong again. He proceeded to tell me it would have "been impossible" to know it was MS (despite multiple clinical symptoms and positive spinal fluid bands had they actually tested at that time, as well as a brainstem lesion present which was causing me to have double vision). Dr. Cohen touts himself as an "MS Expert". I will be leaving Northwestern hospital entirely after this dangerous experience with multiple misdiagnoses and delayed care, followed by zero responsibility taken by the medical team.

I made an appointment over a month ago, so see Resident Sarah Brooker. Today, after waiting over a month already, I got a call that she canceled my appointment with NO reason given. I will be contacting her superior. She's still in training and canceling appointment after being scheduled over a month? What a joke! BTW: the next available appointment wasn't for MONTHS. I will be going elsewhere.

My most favorite space for things medical. Its well run, has excellent doctors, and great communication via an app.
