First time donor! As others have mentioned, the center itself is difficult to find, so do leave extra time to navigate your way. I was a little late to my appointment but was still seen immediately. To the person, everyone I interacted with was kind helpful. Ron did my medical screening/iron test and set me up at my donation station - what a wonderful and gentle person. The snack station was well-stocked and comfortable. The space is small overall, so I can understand how at "peak" donation time, you may experience a wait, but I appreciated the efficiency and care of the staff!

Today I went to donate blood at this location and something I have noticed is that the attitude of the people who work here is not always the best. I get the impression that they think they are doing you a favor when those of us who go to places like this do it with the sole purpose of helping. This was no exception. I went with a friend for my appointment because she was also interested in donating but she only speaks Spanish and for this reason she couldn't donate (which I can understand because she needs to give her consent and there was no one there to do a translation and I was denied the opportunity to translate for her). apart from that everything was normal (they weren't that nice but they weren't being rude either) what bothered me is that I've been a frequent donor for about three years and I've ALWAYS told them to please put the needle in my right arm because I am left-handed and I use my left arm for many things that require detail thanks to my profession and my hobbies and I know that after donating blood your arm is in some way sensitive. I expressed to the nurse that I wanted it to be in my right arm (like all the other occasions) but she refused, downplaying it and saying that it was not my decision and that it is not like this was a surgery and proceeded to insert the needle on my right arm. I wanted not to get upset because I always go with the intention of helping but after that a man sat next to me and another of the nurses asked him which arm he wanted the needle to be inserted in so I asked her if we could choose which arm and she gave me a vague answer. Now my arm is sore and I clearly don't plan on going back to this location.

Terrible hosting, terrible and no experienced staff.

Nothing in life is free, why should blood be? Being paid for giving blood isn't immoral.
Its not a payment, exactly. You get points you can redeem for things like gift cards
Okay, I have a friend who is a nurse and works in a hospital. My friend tells me that the blood that people donate at the hospital stays at the hospital for the patients to use. The blood that people donate at a blood center is sold to hospitals and other medical facilities for good money.
Take the train here. NYC is not meant for cars.
This is a donation site. You can get paid from other companies. But Not from here. Other companies sell to drug companies to use for cosmetics and testing.
So if it's a point reward system. $50 is How much in a ride card?
No. At the time of intake, the donor specialist takes a blood sample to test your hemoglobin level which should be 12.0 or higher in order to donate.
Around 5pm, maybe 5:15 latest.
They give you points that you can redeem for things like gift cards, but no cash
If you become a registered donor, you get a card in the mail that will tell you your blood type. If you're unsure of your type before you donate, they can find out for you
No
