Really enjoyed our time on this beach. Very easy to rent umbrellas and chairs without heavy lifting. Their snack bar is convenient and bathrooms kept clean. Lifeguards are plentiful. Wash areas and changing rooms are so nice to avoid tracking lots of sand into your vehicle. We had a blast here, will definitely be back!

My family and I had a great time. The beaches were clean and not so crowded and the scenery was breathtaking! First time visiting and would love to return.

The whole park is very nice. We went a little early so there were not many people on the beach. The facilities are very clean and well up kept. There was also an elevated pavilion that had a nice place to take food and eat. Access was only 5 dollars. There are some other things to do that kids would love, like looking for sea shells or finding a starfish. The nature is very pretty here.

Great place. $5 entry. Plenty of parking. Lots of birds, seashells, I found a sand dollar. There is the wishing tree all the way to the end and then walk the tree side, you'll see it on your right. Make sure to participate! Food and shops near by 1 mile or less. The park has snacks and restrooms.

Bowens island
Yes handicap will pay to park just like everyone else
Yes there are several areas with outdoor showers and rinse stations. There are also some changing stations periodically co-located with them.
You can fish, need a license though.
Check out Rita's on Thursday evening. Super ReggaeMan is usually playing music. Adds to the salty air and laid back vibe 🏖
Yes.. they are down on the east side at the Pirate Park
Dogs are not permitted on the beach from 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from May 1 through September 30. At all other times the dog must be on a leash. That's from the county Park website.
No it's a state park you will pay too enter just like everyone else.
There is not a fishing pier at the county park end. The county park owns the one that is closed but the actual park doesn't have one. People stand on the beach and fish though.
There's actually a funny sign as you're leaving... it says if you are locked in it's because you stayed too late
There is a pavilion you can reserve. Campers and RV is a no go.
There is a gate there.
Yes. But its not private. Open shower and changing rooms.
As per the Folly Beach County Park website: An owner or person having control of any dog shall not permit the dog to be upon the public beach at any time between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from May 1 through September 30 of each year. At all other times, the dog must be on a leash.
No, there is a campground on James island
Yes. The Charleston County parks system gladly accepts all major credit cards.
The end of the island on the other side of the "groin" that separates swimmers and fishers (yes its called the groin). It'll be marked no swimming
They have beach wheelchairs and it's easy to get to the water.
James Island County Park campgrounds has cabins, it's has a water park and is located 15 minutes from Folly Beach
we stayed close to town.. but rented a golf cart for the week.. the park is the only beach we went to.. loved it.. less congested.. park staff took care of people , even when they didnt have to.. just them being nice, good people.. highly recommend the park..
In South Carolina you have to have a permit to camp on the beach. Right now, no one is handing out permits due to erosion from hurricanes, and sea turtles. But you can get a permit in the winter months easily. Just not on Isle of Palms, Folly or Sullivan's. We have been able to get permits on Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, and Surfside areas. You have to go to the city for permits.
I have not had any trouble in the past doing so. I always ask for a receipt when entering the park solely for this purpose. This way there is no confusion. Especially if there are different people working the post.
It is illegal to consume alcohol on Folly island if you are not within the boundaries of an establishment that served you the beverage with the exception of events that close off Center street and have outdoor vendors serving beverages.
On the poles next to some changing rooms
You can camp at the James Island County Park which is not too far away.
