Camping experience: Clean bathrooms, quiet in off season, great staff. Wood is $9 a small bag. Some sites more private than others. Overall very nice. Not sure I'll return though as trails and lake is NOT in walking distance to the campground. I don't want to drive to do a hike.

A great spot for family car camping. Nice hike to waterfall.

Very nice area. The falls were a bit anemic as it hasn’t rained in a while. But the trail was very easy to walk.

We took the easy trail up to the falls. Not too much water this day, but we enjoyed the walk and the scenery

You can park in the main lot and take the Lower Falls Trail (which is about half a mile, and not too challenging). If you have a disability, there are a few handicap parking spaces on RT. 77 near the falls that will get you to the falls by a boardwalk.
This is from their website (I guess subject to change): Pet Policy: Cunningham Falls Campgrounds: Pets are allowed in Addison Run, Bear Branch and the Manor Area camping loops. Houck Area: Pets allowed on all trails. Pets allowed anywhere in the day-use area except for sandy portion of the beach and lake from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Manor Area: Pets are allowed in the day-use area and trails.
Yes
Depends on what you're paying for. Entry? Cash only. Reservations? Credit online.
Yeah there are a bunch of grills and picnic areas dotted around near the lake.
Sorry I don't hunt, perhaps you should contact the game commission in Maryland.
There are signs saying no swimming nor travel off the trail. That rule was blatantly being broken during my visit.
Per their website: "Swimming is allowed in three designated areas of Hunting Creek Lake, between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Lifeguards are on duty Tuesday through Sunday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Memorial Day to Labor Day." Happy swimming 🏊😊
Yes!
“Swimming is allowed in three designated areas of Hunting Creek Lake, between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Lifeguards are on duty Tuesday through Sunday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Memorial Day to Labor Day. For your safety and the protection of the natural resource swimming is not allowed at the Falls. Please remember to arrive early as the park often reaches capacity by mid to late morning on weekends and holidays. If the park reaches capacity, visitors will be turned away.“
Yes. There is a designated hunting area in the cat rock/ bobs hill area. Dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/documents/cfsp_huntingmap.pdf
Four dollars, no pet fee. Cash only
Definitely yes.... some spot have electricity source so be watchful
I saw a small Black Bear 🐻 here many years ago, but it's pretty unlikely that you'd run across one in this park. I've seen them on pretty much every trip I've taken further out into Western Maryland though. Primarily in Green ridge Forest and up around Deep Creek lake. Although I'm not aware of any specific place that's set up for "bear watching", these are the best places I know of to recommend. Be very careful if you venture out in search of these guys in the wild!
Everyone should know and respect rules in the wild: 1 they are not cute pets 2 never feed them and have your stocks safely stored 3 check in w/ ranger station for tips and travel ideas 4 never let anyone in your group wander off to "explore" 5 do bring behaved younger kids (at least over 5) along and PROPERLY MONITOR THEM 6 carry basic first aids with you 7 Make sure you can call for medical help (a fully charged cell phone) and use your trail map to report your location. 8 matches/fire ARE NOT APPROPRIATE IN OUR NATURAL TREASURE AREAS You'll have a great time and will probably never need this advice. BUT, HEY..
No alcohol allowed in any MD state park
There were two food trucks setup in the lake parking lot when I was there last(07/16/2022). I would expect this would only be the case on weekends during peak summer months.
N or S Beach area, N is better if you want a lifeguard and the playground close by, otherwise S is nice as well
Canoes and paddle boats are a regular sight on the lake, so I would expect they are also allowed. The only regulation I'm aware of is that no gasoline engines are allowed.
They drain the lake down every year twords the end of fall for winter
Only in designated areas.
About 1/2 mile each way. Total there and back is a mile.
There is a bathhouse that has bathrooms near the parking lot - but they are only open when the beach is.
Most sites are wooded. But the lake has open fields.
Yes. Fishing is allowed if you have a license and swimming is available at the beach area.
No, there is a charge to enter the park.
No. Dogs are allowed in the park, but not in the beach area.
Electric only, no gas engines on the lake.
Yes, with license.
Check Maryland State Parks web site for Cunningham Falls.
It is close to the trash receptacle. There is a sign at trail head. I would highly recommend you go in daytime.
Yes. There is.
There is a handicap walkway where you can roll in on a wheelchair to the bottom of the falls but you park outside the park
Hi Debra! I checked out the Cunningham Falls website, and all I came across was that bringing your own firewood/starting your own fire is prohibited. However, I did not see anything regarding charcoal grills. The last time I visited, I did see people utilizing small charcoal grills within the parking lots, but I can't comfortable say, or have definitive confirmation that that is indeed allowed. I would suggest giving the park service a quick call so they can better assist you :) I hope if you do visit that you have a great time! It truly is a beautiful, fun place to explore!
Yes , you can bring small boats like Canooes, river surfing boards and Kayaks
Yes. Leashed. Probably not allowed to swim in the lake. Please clean up after your pet. Leave no trace.
Yes you can Kayak on the lake. You must follow all coast rules. If you look at my profile you can get a better look at the lake.
https://dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/alcoholfaq.aspx. Susan, this page seems to cover pretty much all the bases... I hope that helps :)
No
Yes, I do remember seeing dogs on leashes at the lake and waterfall.
Yes
8:00 to 8:30 is the normal opening time
Yes there are grills available on a first come first serve basis
$4 a person in state $5 a person out of state. And it's worth it
Not far at all. Some are on the lake
I'm not sure what is on the menu, but I definitely saw a concession stand, and they have grills for visitors to use. I just went Saturday for the first time and loved it.
There are no grounds directly on the beach but there's grills in the immediate vicinity periodon the wat
they have it roped off so it won't go over your head
No charge
I'm a smoker, and I have never been told I wasn't allowed to smoke there. I don't believe there would be an issue with it as long as the butts and trash are disposed of properly.
301-271-7574 always best to call than to get info from someone.
Yes. There is a flat wooden ramp that takes you all the way back to the falls. There are 2 different viewing points on the ramp. This entry is off Rt 77 which includes handicap parking. I've taken wheelchairs back this ramp of different kinds, no problem.
It really depends on the trail that you're taking but if you're coming from the visitor center taking the yellow trail its 1.2 miles there. If you are coming from the Park Central Road parking lot using the yellow Trail it's about 1.4 miles.
Couple minutes
Seasonally.
Alcohol is not permitted except in cases as follows. Alcohol is allowed in cabins and motor homes. In designate shelters alcohol permit can be purchased. Permits may also be purchased for special events.
No cabins, but several different camp areas. RV and car or rough sites. Boat ramps, small fishing pier on the lake. Stocked trout in streams and bass in lake. Short hike to largest water fall in the state. Many day hikes up several surrounding peaks.
