Beautiful location. Primitive camping (pit toilet, no lights) but water can be purchased in 16 & 64oz from host. Tried to stay in H/B site as a bike tourist but people drive up, unload there cars and park on the street and claim the H/B sites which they are not. Luckily the host didn't turn us away but it's a shame the policies aren't enforced. Beware of the Raccoons they are bold and will laugh at you as they eat any food you leave out

September 12-14, 2022 Beautiful location. The camp hosts were lovely.

The campground hosts, Shannon and Doug, were simply amazing. We loved our stay at this magical place. Raccoons are an issue. They need to upgrade their trash bins. The raccoons banged on them throughout the night. Not sure why the owners don’t have better trash cans on site. Both days we were there the raccoons succeeded breaking into the Cans and there was trash littered everywhere during my morning walk. Otherwise… What a wonderful little piece of heaven 🌲

This campground is absolutely amazing. We just spent 2 nights and were fortunate enough to have site 22 with amazing ocean and cliff views and a large tree for shade. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Kudos to campground hosts Doug, Shannon and their adorable puppy Wookiee for a lovely stay!

No
It's almost to the slide area which is about 30 miles past Pfeiffer.
It's extremely hard because it's a beautiful campground! Sites only open up 6 months out so if you know you're dates I would be glued to the computer 6 months before. You can book them on recreation.gov. Alternatively, you can take your chances on the first come first serve sites but that would be a little risky.
Yup...some sites bigger than other as well
They sell firewood for like $8 a bundle, but I recommend you stopping at a Safeway before you hit the coast to get it for cheaper. There is beach access, a public trail straight from the edge of the cliff campground that leads to the beach in 5 mins. However, it's more of a rocky beach than a sandy beach. You can walk a ways along the rocks to get to other areas though
No electric outlet, no running water
The max capacity for 1 site is 2 cars and 8 people. They charge slightly extra for the second car
Yes they should be some control about this - but probably will not happen
Yes, between camp sites 9 & 11. But yes, poison oak is THICK and check for ticks (only 1 found on 1 of our 4 campers).
No network at campground, you can drive few miles. We got cell network up on cone peak summit :)
Two.
Got back yesterday from Kirk Creek, Highway 1 is open till above the campground,so coming from LA take 101 and enjoy the spring views of Central Coast.
Either gas station, picnic area or public restroom at Cambria
Reservations are best, because this is such a treasure location.
You'll have a better chance tomorrow but it still matters on whom is already staying in the FF and if they're staying another night. Try around noon. They start releasing the "sellable" sites at 2pm
No, most sites are reserved on recreation.org. There are only a few first come sites
Check in is 3 pm
Yes it is
Like Kirk said, the hiker/biker sites open at 2pm to others if unfilled. Would get there little before because there can be quite a few people waiting
There is not a direct number for the campground, there is no phone service in that area.
If only there was a phone number or website to answer these questions
You can fish. I believe you'll need a permit
It's not affected here. I had a reservation and went camping over new years, during the shutdown, and the staff were still on duty and cleaning the bathrooms. The bathrooms are as clean as you can get, for porta-potty's that is...
Even if there are spot left, u won't get a place unless specified ''first come first serve'' on the website for a specific spot
Check in time is at 3pm. The site is held until 2pm the next day. The gate is not locked so you can set up after hours and check in with host at 9am the next morning.
No the site is held for 24 hours for you to check in.
You just show up in the morning from 10 am and see if there's any room left. But I seriously recommend making a reservation in advance, especially in the summer months. It's a small but popular campground and there is only one alternative close by.
Just a scenic drive down Hwy 1.
I reside in San Luis Obispo, the county south of Montery. Lots of beach and state and county campgrounds also. But all of us locals agree, when the tourists leave in midSeptember, that time right through October is usually the best in weather and pleasant and enjoyable. I would 'imagine' Monterey county to be the same.
From the south go to Naciemento Furgasen road thru Fort Hunter Ligett.
It is federal so check the website
yes, its better to make reservation
