Before entering the house I have to say that the way they do things is kind of unorganized. Appreciate the back story told to us before entering. But once your in its a free for all. So things are constantly being moved and touched and people lea e things behind. Should really regulate how many in the house at one time. Also could use a little straightening up. But besides that crossing over the threshold into the living room got an instant feel of dread. The actual experience was interesting. Didn't here much about the cellar but after going down I immediately came out. Stomach dropped. Creepy!

I was really enjoying the scenery until a demon came inside me. Granted, not the first time I've had a demon inside me, but definitely one of the most intense.

Paid for a tour and we're told go ahead and look around,no guide,no info on the crime, we just wandered around by ourselves. Also note: cash only!! Wasn't able to get souvenirs

A tragedy occurred in this house a little over a hundred years ago where 2 adults and 5 children died with an ax and the murderer was never found. It is worth visiting this haunted house

Super sad for this family Didn't deserve this demise ! They are trapped and need to be helped to move on Bless them all PRAYERS 🙏🙏 🙏
People do approach the house when people stay, so there is a possibility 🤷
The house was built in 1868, on lot 310. After the murders, the house went through the possession of eight people, the most recent acquisition occurring in 1994 by Darwin Linn. He and his wife successfully restored the house to its original condition at the time of the murders. Josiah B. and Sara Moore House - Wikipedia
Yes. They have a lot to say. It's scary what they say too. But it's worth it.
The the day that I was there they had paranormal investigators that were going to be spending the night so we weren't allowed inside because they had already set up there
Yes and yes, I believe
My coworker wasn’t pushed but was pulled back some
If you go during a popular time for daytime tour you are limited to 15 minutes. If it is not busy like a weekday you aren't necessarily held to the 15 minutes. It is mostly for social distancing. That is $10 as others have said.
How do you know they’re not demons impersonating as family members just to fool people.
The mirrors are covered to mimic what the killer did that night. This was possibly due to a common superstition back then about evil spirits and mirrors while mourning. Also, YES, you can touch things in the house. This is a "set", essentially, and not their personal belongings. I would ask them personally before uncovering the mirrors though.
Depends on your level of innibriation
No one does. Been unsolved for 110 years. It's anyone's guess
I think their are ghosts everywhere but not everyone believes
No not solved just possibilities ... there is actually a pretty famous movie about it called velisca
No nobody has. the activity of the house is minimal
Living room and the Moores owned the house
@ Chris Feistner, I think you meant it knocked the sinking of the Titanic off the front pages. WW1 hadn’t begun yet in 1912. WW1 began in 1914.
Yes,there are nicks in the ceiling of the parent's room. Eerie feeling in all of the rooms. I've visited 3 times. My camera somehow deleted my photos one time.
I know you can chill outside. There is a barn in the back of the house that has the a bench and swing bathroom, mini fridge and coffee maker. Not sure about the grilling part
They should make it more public to the community
Me and a few people stayed over night there a couple weeks ago so as far as I know its not because of covid or maybe they are just not doing tours. There was a minor issue with the house that needed repairs immediately so I it may be temporary closed for that
Still open!! We went like 2 weeks ago, they just ask that you wear masks. No spirit followed us home, if you imagine that people stay almost every night it makes you feel better about that part!!!
10 dollars and it was cool. It does have a evil feeling in the attic. Go in with a open mind.
10$ cash
My family has lived in and around villisca for 60+ years. In the 70s / 80s, the house was rented to occupants to live in. Sometime after that it was purchased by the villisca museum and the tours started. I toured the house when I was probably 12 or 13. It was later sold and purchased (I believe in the early 2000s) and has become what it is now. You can see a detailed history on villiscaiowa.com.
The price for an overnight visit is a minimum of $428.00 (includes sales tax) which allows for 1 to 6 guests. Each additional guest is an additional $75.00 http://www.villiscaiowa.com/overnight-tours.php
No. A house's layout is not copyrighted or trademarked, so you can build a replica if you want. I would personally add a bathroom, though. ;)
Go to the villisca website and you will see the rules of the house.
Most Amish use LED lanterns to get around the home. You can even rig lights powered by car batteries. Pretty wild. Unless you're real old school conservative. So be Amish. Bring an LED lantern.
It's a cute house I guess? No idea...
I'm sure there would be no problems with that. Wouldn't make a whole lot of sense though as its claim to fame was from the early 1900s and not 1800s.
They have fake candles that kind of flicker. Just put them inside of an old looking lantern and it should look like a flame. You can probably find them at walmart.
It has always had some activity hench why most people that tried to live there didn't stay long. Now I've never experienced anything while I've been there but I know plenty and have heard plenty evidence of what others have gotten there.
Yes..its around $428 per night for up to 6 people
The ax is not there no, it is in a local museum from my understanding. Very authentic, however, I am unsure if all items are originally, I believe some are, but not all.
They tell you the history and then you wander around and look at the place. It has been filled with items from the time of the murder. NOT the murdered family's actual belongings but items similar. Some photos are from the family but not much. The murders took place almost 107 years ago and no one knew there would be a morbid fascination with it so not much was saved. Of course if you go on the tour, you will hear all of the details.
I would have at least 250-300 feet of cord.
Yes. I think the price is $428.00 up to 6 people. Additional people its $75.00. I know I want to do an overnight there. I did a day tour and we got interesting things
It is worth it.
Just get on the county clerk and recorders website and put in the address
It would be something you could look up with the county the house is in. This is public record and can be looked up. If you really want to know.
I would google the house. Should have all the info on the website.
Anyone under 18 has to be with an adult.
We spent roughly $500 for seven people.
It depends if there is any activity going on, it is a beautiful house, the guide tells you the history of the house and then you walk around by yourself and take pictures, you can do evp, use your ghost detector if you have one, you can also spend the night there you have to book it and it is not free but I think if your looking for scary that would be the way to go, it is one if the biggest mysteries in the U.S and people from all over come to Iowa to see this house, worth a visit I have been there twice and will go back.
I have taken many pics during the day and gotten some surprising images
Yes you can sleep in your car in the parking lot, I happened to visit when it was closed seasonally but a group of guys had rented it for the night so me and the family hot a free private tour!!!!!! IT WAS CREEPY AS HELL I'LL TELL YOU THAT, then when we first pulled up and noticed it was closed we started taking pictures, looked up and noticed this pale ass face staring at me............i swear I almost had a heart attack!!!!
I have not read anything saying that he was.The killer smoked because they found evidence of someone smoking in the attic.
they were closed on Mondays open 1 to 3:30 Tuesday - Sunday. Reopens March 31st.
