Our campsite was clean, bathrooms were clean and always available. The staff at check in were fantastic too. The beach was great as well!

First time here and most I say had a wonderful time! The park is very clean, the beach is breathtaking, and nature is all around you. I can't wait to come back!

Beautiful! Lake is close and sites are spacious. Full hookups available plus rustic tent sites, the full spectrum. Pit toilets. Limited ranger presence.

Overall this is a nice place. I stayed a week over the 4th of July in the Pines campground. Most of the sites are pretty nice. I would have given 5 stars if the bath house in the Pines campground was like the new one at the beach campground. The Pines campground showers have poor water pressure, intermittent hot water and the drains back up frequently.

All are family friendly easy. All are relatively flat, some muddy and wet areas but nothing challenging. All are very enjoyable rides through the woods so there's plenty to see.
I believe I saw one called Wash & Dry Dock near the base of the bridge!
Yes, and they even have a dog beach! Our dog loved chasing sticks in the water!
No just electric. I'm here working on updating sites. No water hook up at sites but there are fill stations.
It's a State Park (not preserve), and yes, you are allowed to fish with a license. The website has more details about what seasonal rules there are.
I don't think it's long, but I'm not familiar with those particular sites. Try calling the park office . They should be able to help you.
Not likely
It is not smelly unless you are standing within 50 foot of the dumpsters on a hot summers day.
Michigan state parks website: https://www.midnrreservations.com/ beautiful park!
Type of bug unsure without a pic or description. But Calamine lotion should help dry out the bites.
The back country rustic campground is open year round. The semi-modern campground with 20/30 amp hookup is currently open. However, if you need 50 amp or full hook-up, or are looking for rustic tent sites, those do not open until May. You can find more information here: https://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/StateParkCampgroundDatesRates_612125_7.pdf
I think it was between 25 to 30$. It was amazing view of the night sky.😀
Mike is right. Generally after Labor Day you won't need reservations there can be a few exceptions. The fall fest is popular and that is the last weekend in September. The first couple weekends in September can be pretty busy.. They are site specific so if you like something special... Full hook-up, lakeside etc you might want to consider making a reservation. The North Country Trail runs through and there are a couple of backwoods sites, buy they are reserve only. Check out French Farm Lake or Wycamp Lake. They are rustic sites with no facilities, so you will need a water filter or bring enough water. You can drive into both sites too. Both sites i mention are within 10 miles of wilderness campground.
There is a public swim beach on the north shore at the picnic area and campgrounds in Big Stone Bay on Wilderness Park Drive. And there are dunes and beaches on Sturgeon Bay on Lakeshore Drive at the southern end of the park.
Sound like a tent site to me. If it is then it's close to check in and right on the lake
Reservations are suggested. You probably will not get a place unless you are off season without a reservation
Bunks, chairs, table, electric lights, few outlets, wood stove and wood. Period
We used Cabins before the rules were implemented. For a couple of years it was no pets at the site, but they relented and allowed at the site, but not inside. Cabins are state buildings. Pets can sleep in the vehicle. Pets adapt better than owners!
There is handicap spots, getting one may require calling the park being as most dont designate which ones are handicapped or available
Ive stayed there many many times. Is it OK in general? Sure! The water is nice and staff are friendly. Can be heavy mosquitoes during warmer months. Had an issue with clean bathrooms during a spring stay a few years back but nothing since.
Yes they do. In fact I enjoyed a stay there in December with 20 other people. We booked the cabin for December again a couple of days ago. I didn't book it so I can't tell you how much cost but I think I remember $10 -- $12 per person if I'm not mistaken.

Excellent Small Mouth Bass fishing from late May to late June off Waugoshace Point. Area can be accessed by boat or wading.
