If you're talking canoeing, portaging I'd look at Tahqumennon park
Best place in Michigan to camp and hike would be Porcupine Mountains in the upper peninsula. Amazing trails, views, campsites and backcountry sites, and Lake Superior.
If you want to be by the bridge then Wilderness state park is a great place. You can go into Mackinaw and check out the shops or go out to the island. They also have two lighthouse to enjoy. If you like to fish you may get into some small mouth bass. Now if you really want to go southwest a ways then yes, Lundington is one of my favorite places to visit. Have a great time.
PJ Hoffmaster is a great place as is Platte River National Forest Campground. Wilderness is great for biking and hiking though.
Wilderness state park is a great place to go! And not far from Mackinaw city!
North country trail plus many local trails go thru Wilderness. You can canoe or fish on French Farm Lake also. Wilderness is more than 10,000 acres and a pretty place with lots of wild life.
Wilderness State park has a 13 mile loop you can hike. We rented a cabin and loved it. There is 1 back country camp site. Beautiful place quite and peaceful.
With a RV, i would suggest Ludington State Park.
