So much to see and do and lots of people to help you out.
Nancy Dierker
What a wonderful experience. The volunteers really make you feel comfortable and well served. Information is abundant and the restrooms were the cleanest I have ever experienced.
Geoff Donkin
Great resource for genealogists with very helpful staff
Christopher Ballard
I was told this is the best Genealogy Research Library in the entire world and I was not in the least disappointed. The staff is kind and amazingly helpful even if I did not catch on by my 10th visit. I was able to trace my family back to the Medieval Ages! Incredible place if you are curious about your ancestry.
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
Weekdays 4:00-9:00 and all day Saturday there is free parking behind the Church History Museum which is next door to the Family History Library.
The library is open to the public and the patrons are very helpful.
What family are you talking about? I don't recall Hopkins in my family tree
The FHL has several WALKER Family History books in.their collection. Is it one of these below? If not, they would surely like to have it BUT you should call the FHL or contact them via their website. Leaving a comment here may not even be seen by their staff. A brief history of the Walker family in America 1742-1994Author:Renaud, Diane Walker; Walker, Orrin A brief history of the William B. Walker familyAuthor:Walker, Martha Isbel Charity, the pure love of Christ : the family history of George Lyle Stewart and Clara May Walker StewartAuthor:Abbott, Mary Stewart; Christensen, Joy Stewart; Smith, Florence Stewart Charlie Paul Schultz : the Walker County Schultz family history: footprints of time down the pathway of lifeAuthor:Swindle, Eva Regina Brown, 1950- The Colin Walker family history and genealogy Author:Conkey, Donald S. (Donald Samuel), 1927- Dr. Thomas Walker family history records Author:Burns, Annie Walker, 1894-1966
Call them. They are very helpful
Closed until further notice.
Yes they do
Just Google BYU Relative Finder and you will see the link.
Depends on the info ypu seek! A lot is online at FamilySearch.org However some records are online and not searchable by keyword. There are also collections only viewable in a FHL location. Go to their site FamilySearch.org, then to their "CATALOG" so see the collections they have and the format available.
Here is the schedule for the library https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Family_History_Library_Hours_and_Holiday_Schedule
There is a Prussian Ancestry group on Facebook. I suggest you try them.
Hello Baptiste, if he wanted to plaid, contact the Family History Center at https://www.familysearch.org. They maybe help. I regret, I am not strong on French. Alan
It is closed every Sunday and will be closed on Monday the 28th. Friday the 25 it is open from 8 am to 9 pm. Saturday the 26 open from 9 to 5
New hours began last week. Monday through Saturday 8am-9pm, Sunday 1-5
Can I find information about George lackey
You need to contact the library directly.
Hi Peggy-Thank you for your question. We did receive the collection from Concordia University. We're still in the process of cataloging it and creating a FamilySearch Wiki page listing all the items donated. Unfortunately, most of the items may not be available online due to copyright.
You could bring it in and have them take a look or you could go to Facebook group for that area and they might help you.
Means without a name, of publisher
They are encouraged, but not required.
There are a lot of resources on the website. I would suggest creating an account and getting started!
It is not open currently, but you can schedule an online consultation with the research specialists for help with your family history research. https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Family_History_Library_Online_Consultations
You might contact Family History Center for Arimo Idaho Stake.
The FHL does not offer look ups...but several people in Facebook Groups like Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness will do it for you. Are you sure the phone book is in their collection? A phone book from Brazil is not listed in their catalog: 9 results (0) Brazil, Rio de Janeiro - Church records ( 1 ) Brazil, Rio de Janeiro - Civil registration ( 1 ) Brazil, Rio de Janeiro - Civil registration - Indexes ( 1 ) Brazil, Rio de Janeiro - Colonization ( 1 ) Brazil, Rio de Janeiro - Description and travel ( 1 ) Brazil, Rio de Janeiro - Emigration and immigration ( 10 ) Brazil, Rio de Janeiro - Emigration and immigration - Indexes ( 1 ) Brazil, Rio de Janeiro - Minorities ( 1 ) Brazil, Rio de Janeiro - Naturalization and citizenship ( 1 )
It would be preferable if you sign up before you come and also add known family members to your tree. Your time may be limited when you visit and that would get you get you ahead and you could then use your time at the FHL to do further research for your unknown ancestors.
Your best bet for suggestions would be actually calling the FHL And asking to speak with a facilitator of this program about what you might expect. People that volunteer or work there are not guaranteed to see this question. Posting inquires here does not send your message to the FHL but to other Google users. If you are wanting to participate in the $1,449 the 7-day "Road Scholar" program, there is also a discussion board for the FHL program on their website. https://www.discussion.roadscholar.org/programs/f/program-7031
None
You need to go to their website. All the information about it can be found there. https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Family_History_Library_Classes_and_Webinars
Ann, the library will be open its usual hours when you are here. We look forward to your visit.
You are able to get a 9 generation fan chart on 24 x 36 paper for free at the Family History Library.
You need to CALL them for this kind of information. The FHL doesn't monitor or respond via Google maps questions. Your replies come from other Maps users.
The Family History Library will be open regular hours on general conference weekend.
If you are actually at a FHL, the docent Elders can be a great help in finding records. Sometimes you can also find them online if you know where to look. Often times records are not indexed and you must look through them manually like reading the phone book. If you go on FamilySearch.org you can go to SEARCH then CATALOG and enter Patrai, Ahaias, Greece for location, you will find they have 68 rolls of microfilms in their archives on births and marriages going back to 1870 for that location. The images of these microfilms are only available to be viewed at a Family History Library computer or an affiliate Library FHL. Most major cities have a FHL, so you can search outside of Salt Lake City too. You will need to pick a roll for a target year, then scroll through looking for the surname. Labor intensive but what must be done if records are not indexed. The docents will start you off but you will need to do the reading work.
The library doesn't do DNA testing. They might refer you to Ancestry.com as they are an affiliate company that does it. However you would need to pick which type of testing is right for you. Not all offer exactly the same product. Also you don't make appointments for the testing. The companies that do it will send you a kit and you do a cheek swab or submit a tube of saliva for processing and you mail it in.
Great answer above.
Pay parking on the street or at the City Creek Mall. There is free parking behind the Church History Museum after 4pm and on weekends, unless there is an event going on. Entrance is off North Temple Street.
If you do go to the FHL and do have something you want printed there are several options. You can get a prepaid card for a couple of dollars to pay for paper printing OR you can take in your own thumb drive (or buy one there) to store your print OR you can use your phone / camera and just take a picture of it.
There is a parking lot north of the Museum for 5 dollars for the whole day.
Yes, it going to be open 8 am to 9 pm
There is free parking after 4 pm and on Saturday behind the Church History Museum on the corner of North Temple and West Temple. The entrance to the parking is from North Temple Street.
The best thing to do is call them. Their phone number is on their website.
Alan is exactly right you should contact them either Telepho e them or call them so they can help you.Sister Camille Thomas.
Yes, the Family History Library at 35 N. West Temple Street is open. 8 am to 5 PM, on MLK Day.
No appt necessary and the FHL is now open until 9 p.m. .Tuesday-Saturday
The phone number is on their web page
I am a Sister in the Family History Library and they have many missionaries plus professionals or cz as I call them Specialists who are there on certain days , if you are going to be in Salt Lake City, Utah I would heck and see and then sometimes they will give you an opinion to make cz an appointment to get one on one help.
Go to familysearch.org. click Search and Catalog. It contains all records. You can also search records and all published collections. If you need more help go to Help at the top of the page and try the Community.
No.
We have a macine for slides to negative, but not negatives. Sorry! I know that Costco can do that for a fee.
Call the FHL and ask for QRC
No, the books can't be checked out. They can only be used inside the building. Come and visit the library.
Salt Lake City Family History Library will be closed on Wednesday after 5.00pm, also will be closed whole day on Thursday and Friday. Will re-open on Saturday.
If you are there, go to the information desk on the 1st floor. They are very helpful. If they have it, it may be on microfilm or digitized. If you have a Family Search account it's better. If not open one, it's FREE and very useful. Some of their records are only available to LDS Church members, you may be able to persuade a Missionary to let you see things on their account. Good luck
HI! I am sister Camille Thomas a missionary at the family history library and I can tell you to look on the family search wiki for the Province that you need but most censuses start in1841, this is where the wiki comes in then go to www.family search.org and then you will go search then you look for research wiki then click on it and then it should ask you for your province then you can go from there. Hope's this helps.good Luck.Sister Camille Thomas.
Start with the third floor of the library the missionarys there will help you there. Then you will be directed from there You will find there is much to do and much to see.i pray you will have a great and wonderful experience.
No, They are closed. You can get a complete list of closing at https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Family_History_Library or just "Google" Family History Library.
sorry, I only speak English.
The parking lot across from LDS Business College on 300 West often has 5.00 parking
To do self guided research or to get general help from the missionaries there no appointment is needed. If you are in need or a specialist in a foreign country or someone who speaks a specific language it is sometimes a good idea to call or check in on the appropriate floor to find out when someone might be available.
On FamilySearch there is a catalog for the library under the search section. That will let you know if each film in on site, digital access or in the vault. A majority of films are either at the FHL or digital access (depending on the collection you may still have to be at the FHL or a FamilySearch library to access). Occasionally (but rarely) there are films you need from the vault, you can either request these online or in person at the FHL. It usually takes a few days to 2 weeks but often you can ask them to email or contact you when the film has arrived. But, like I said, this is a rare occurrence.
Since "Take a name" and other similar apps just draw information from FamilySearch, there is no extra checking done to verify anything. It's suggested that you double check the information, making sure it looks right (mother not born after the child, husband not born 100 years before the wife, etc.)
No
No.
8 am to 5 pm
Generally it is at the time of the marriage, though they may have needed to live in that parish for 3-4 weeks prior to the marriage. And yes, "21 and upward" means they were at least 21 years of age.
There is always parking under the conference center available. Handicapped parking I think the closest would be the parking lot just North or something street side. You can definitely get help with any family history at the center.
Its closed on Saturday March 31, but open regular hours on Monday April 2
Weekdays 4:00-9:00 and all day Saturday there is free parking behind the Church History Museum which is next door to the Family History Library.
There are public parking garages under City Creek or the Conference Center. You can also park on most streets.
No, it is closed that day.
There is a play area on the main floor Discovery Zone. Parents should be close by their children. There is no play area on any other floor
Both have a discovery center but the building in Salt Lake contains all the records while the building in Lehi is mainly just an office building for employees.
There should be a lot on-line
City Creek or the lot on the NW corner of West Temple snd North Temple
South African resources can be found on the B1 floor, which has all international resources besides the British Isles!
