While we visited early in the morning before the lighthouse operating hours, we were not able to do the tour or check out the gift shop. However, we could still still enjoy it from the outside. Beautiful lighthouse, very well maintained!

Museum and store closed...but I visited late in the day on a Monday - and - as the UP prepares to wrap up its main tourist season. No matter...very enjoyable to wander the grounds and view the buildings from outside. Plus you can stroll right down to the Lake Michigan shore. A bit off the beaten path. I would budget about 45-60 minutes round-trip from Hwy 2...for drive time and visit. More time if facilities are open...

It's a steep climb up the tower! There is still stuff to see if you don't climb the tower. Very cool place. Had a 4 and 10 year old who enjoyed the tower and museums. Friendly historical society workers. The nature trail was amazing and beautiful.

Stopped on our way back home, very informative guides and even though it was a crummy day the view was great and the grounds were beautiful, so much history....oh, don't forget to ask about the haunted keeper stories!
