Great beach and much more. The walk to the jetty however was a long one even for somebody in prime physical condition like myself 😄. It took a while so we didn't get to check out the other spots at the park. See my photos for some of the spectacular views and empty beaches. Very cool beach that is natural with dunes and no houses or condos.

Excellent place to camp, in any mode. Immaculately clean including all bathroom and shower facilities if you need them. Beautiful beaches. Quiet atmosphere. All park personnel and Rangers very nice and unobtrusive. We stay here for Bike Week in May, 7 years now. Many friends that join us.

This was an amazing little getaway on a public beach. You could see alligators, go swimming, little play area for the kids, few picnic table spots, the little old house/castle was awesome. My family and I didn't camp here but that's also an option as well.

This is a heavenly oasis for nature lovers!! Oh the birds and peaceful solitude!! The jetty is a memorable walk at the right tide level and the beach feels so private because after sunset it’s only resident campers who can go there. Some campsites can hear the ocean. It’s beautiful! The nature center offers great activities for kids! This park is a fantastic place to ride your bike! We have made many happy memories here and can’t wait to go back! Well worth the daily price of admission! One of the most wonderful special gems on the east coast.

We were just there yesterday, not to camp, just to visit, and my step father who is a senior and a veteran (we are from NC) was denied both a senior and a veteran discount. 😡 I would almost bet they DON'T offer either discounts to people from out of state who wish to use their campsites. Mind boggling if you ask me and an awful way to encourage people to visit.
Seen some in the marsh area
Yes
No honestly just the main beach has a few
Monarch butterflies migrate through South Carolina each fall on the Lowcountry islands. Be on the lookout. In the fall, Monarch butterflies make their annual mad dash across North America to Mexico and the Caribbean islands, stopping along the Lowcountry beaches to juice up on nectar.
It is open right now
$5 per person hut a bit less if 65 or older. Th admission is also good for Myrtle Beach state park
February is cold. Bring a coat etc. It starts warming up in April. Seniors get a discount.
Absolutely, but plan accordingly as the weather and temperatures can make or break your trip if you aren't prepared, especially heat and humidity in the summer.
I saw the painted bunting on the way to the beach. It was in the tree alongside the walkway. We also saw it near the boardwalk the same day. It was about 2 pm.
Yes. Always good to call ahead
No. You can rent beach wheelchair with large tires at ranger station though.
Yes
HOURS 6 a.m. - 6 p.m., daily (extended to 10 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time)
Go to the library..it tends to be cheaper
No but it's $8 a person to get in without a yearly tag
No and the walk to the jetty is very long so go light. But I do recommend myrtle beach state park costs to get on the pier but worth it. Oh and Cherry Grove beach public boat launch is another good spot to fish while in the area alot easier to access and free.
No and the wi fi is not good at all.
We brought our 3 month old puppy there a week ago. Such a wonderful experience, though your dog does have to be on a leash your dog could definitely swim in the ocean in a more secluded space. Hope you enjoy, we surely did.
I believe it is $8 to get into the park. Jetty is at North end. It will be a hike to get there from the public beach access which is at the south end. I don't recall a parking area on the north end, but I didn't explore with that in mind.
Family membership is now $110. However, if you purchase the membership during a visit, you can deduct the cost of the admission from the membership amount.
We have been going to Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet South Carolina for the last 15 years. It is a great Campground with large sites and easy access to an uncrowded Beach. You couldn't go wrong there.
I don't believe so, but there there is good OTA reception
Garden city Pier. Best pier for fishing all night as well
There are no cabins, they do have RV and tent areas. I believe they have hookups for the RVs as well.
gift shop or gate entrance
Day use is a different charge from camping fees. Go to the website to get charges and availability of both day use and charges for camping sites.
Two
You get to hold your kid by the ankles over an alligator pit while he/she feeds it a cottonmouth snake! See? Three activities in one! It's fun for everyone!
If it were me, I'd pay it safe and "double" check! What I mean by double is both email and phone. I would think that if you could reserve an area, they would have a diagramed map online where you could see which areas are reserved and which are vacant, and book right on the site. Good luck and have fun!
There are benches on the causeway, and on the different piers, but not on the actual trails.
They lock the gates at entrance 6pm in the winter months
Just drove through
Yes, there is an RV and tent camping spot that is very convenient. I'm not sure how far in advance they should be reserved, but great spot. It's a state park so give them a call.
Yes there's a per person charge or a seasonal pass which is good for everyone in the car
No, but if you bring a pickle & a ball there's plenty of open space. Or bring 'em to the beach and play ocean pickle ball!!! Hope this helps😁
They have great service, plenty of parking, showers with bathrooms clean, inexpensive, and breath taking views. I was there recently and walked at night with my fiancee. The tide waves and pools were filled with bioluminescent creatures. I was on the north shore camp ground and had a very pleasant during day too. Campground beach access is usually better. Camp at the beach to get the best experience!
Crabbing is usually done during the day. The best time is high tide running to low. You can use a hand line, basically string with a weight and bait. Crabs are scavengers, and will go after pretty much anything. Bait seems to be regionalized, some areas use chicken, others bunker or other 'junk fish'. There are a variety of traps as well. They are all essentially boxes with doors and bait, the doors open on the bottom, crab comes in. You pull rope, doors close! Essentially, you throw bait in the water, wait a little bit, pull it up. Easy, kids love it and every vacation should include it
Not really, id say more tables then bbq pits. You would need to get there early to get a bbq
Depends on the weather, mostly calm unless stormy.
Huntington beach would be a great fit. Clean, bathouses & a very short walk to the beach. They have a designated area for "primitive camping" as well as for campers & motor coaches. There is easy access to grocery stores & dining, as well as grill pits. Drinks & snacks are available @ the commissary. Have fun, we did. Oh, it is extremely quiet.
Can you catch blue crabs there is there a dock or a march
Should be free but resources are down
I am not sure they would let you do that. But it never hurts to ask them. A lot of trees there are protected. I would call and ask. 843 237 4440. Thank you
On the new campsite side there are by the bathhouse
Portable power stations are available just about everywhere and online. They work quite well depending on the brand, and they come in multiple sizes. Walmart sells several.
There is a landing called Oyster Landing one mile down highway 17 towards Murrell's Inlet that is part if the State Park. Its in the creeks of the salt marsh between Murrell's Inlet and Huntington. I think you can actually kayak all the way into Murrells Inlet but be careful not to get stuck trying to get back at low tide. Not sure if there is a route that stays boat worthy the whole way during low tide.
SC State Parks or Huntington Beach State Park
Its a beach, tv and phones should be the last thing on your mind :) nope
Atalaya is the Summer residence of the Huntington's.
Yes, but it's expensive. If you are going to be a week or so it's worth it to buy it at the fresh fish market. 35.00 dollars for a huge bundle.
There's a store that sells ice, drinks and some food items. And lots of fabulous souvenirs.
Yes they are open, the have been opened for weeks.
I'm not exactly sure what the charge is but it is less than General admission for seniors!
The yearly pass is good for everyone in the vehicle but I've never heard of a weekly pass. The daily pass is per person last time I went
Sorry..I dont know the answer to this one. You could call or email them..
Yes, there are small facilities between the primitive campgrounds/pavilion parking lot area and the beach. Theres a short sandy path through the brush.
No .... 2 week stay only
Yes. At the campground area only. You will have to go to the Visitor center to obtain password information from the employees. Hotspot on your cell phones worked. On the beach I used my email and internet while taking pictures of family.
No you bring your own things. And the gift shop doesn't have much.
Yes. In shower area.in new camp area. Not sure about the older side
Sorry they change each year. It's volunteers. And they posted up on the board but if you call the gift shop I'm sure they can tell you they might can even send you email or copy
I saw a 4' x6' by 12" tall kiddie inflatable pool at a site but do not think you are supposed to have one
I do not think so. At least we did not see any at the main parking lot (where the visitor center is).
It depends on the time of year. And what exactly you are looking for. But it says standard pavilions are betweeen 24 and 62 dollars. And that is just standard rental. I dont know if they charge more for a wedding or not.
You can keep fish. Just be sure to follow the SCDNR regs for size and limits.
Ok, it's not technically allowed, but it's not as if they come along and inspect your campsite. Just don't act like an idiot and clean up after yourself, be discreet.
They don't have a lighthouse, but they do have excellent facilities.
5 dollars per person except for senior citizens 65 or older and children less than 5
Yes - but as others have said bring anchors and look for high tide line unless you enjoy moving it a lot.
You do not pay for the tent or camper you pay for a site which is 60 dollars
Nope. Not yet. They are still collecting up money for a new one.
Dogs are allowed on the beach with a leash. They're allowed everywhere in the park except the bird sanctuary
a walk path is exactly what it sounds like a walk path. in the park they use these "walk paths" to get access to marches and wildlife in the swamp areas that is created by the ocean and terrain. They also educate you along the way about what animals and life live in these waters. The oysters was the most remarkable part of the areas and also the alligator we was able to find swimming around.
I believe they should. no problems. you can always call ahead of schedule to find out
No cabins. But about 10 miles away at Myrtle Beach State Park there are a few cabins.
Gobto theie website.
ADMISSION $5/adult; $3.25/ S.C. Senior; $3/youth age 6-15; Free for children 5 and younger. Atalaya admission: $2/person ages 6 and up. Children 5 and under admitted free.
$99 for a primer pass gets you into all parks in South Carolina
You can purchase a state park pass for $75 good for a whole year and it includes park admission to EVERY SC state park. Covers everyone in the car. You can get it at any state park
It would be best to contact the park. Parties for day use can handle that big of a crowd. Overnight camping might create a problem for that many.
Full hookups are available in limited numbers. Be sure to check with the reservationist to see if they are available on your schedule
not sure. id just google it.
Yes. The park is open year round.
Renovations are taking place and they also were preparing for any inclement weather.
