Crabbing is usually done during the day. The best time is high tide running to low. You can use a hand line, basically string with a weight and bait. Crabs are scavengers, and will go after pretty much anything. Bait seems to be regionalized, some areas use chicken, others bunker or other 'junk fish'. There are a variety of traps as well. They are all essentially boxes with doors and bait, the doors open on the bottom, crab comes in. You pull rope, doors close! Essentially, you throw bait in the water, wait a little bit, pull it up. Easy, kids love it and every vacation should include it

Where we went was "lights out after dark" because of the turtles. Doubt you can go crabbing there.
