Came here in the mid afternoon just before low tide and was able to walk out to the rocks in the distance. The water was cold but wonderful on a hot summer day. The restrooms were clean. Admission is charged per person.

lL Bean added a wonderful box in the center of the parking lot where you can borrow beach chairs,, umbrellas, games,... All free and return as you leave the beach. During summer months it is best to be there when they open at 9 am or after 1 pm when people start leaving, otherwise harder to get in and find parking. We love the soft sand, at low tide exploring islands, and kids enjoy the gentle waves. Lifeguard on duty during summer months to notify people of rip currents. We truly love this beach

During our visit here there was a storm coming, the wind at this location was around 55 Mph. The scenery of this beach was something out of this world with the wind blowing towards us..high ocean weaves crashing into the rocks... felt like we were in a whole another planet.

Popham was chilly but nothing a fleece coat could t handle and we had acres of beach to ourselves. Rest rooms were open and clean. This is a must visit for the beach and nearby historic forts. Dress warmly and plan to spend the day.

Id check air bnb.
No there's not a landing at the fort, but there is one about a mile away.
If you park towards the end by the fort, you can fish off the beach. That part of the beach is public and free.
Yes you can purchase all passes directly at each park from our hard working booth attendants. Thank you! We appreciate the love, and your support for Conservation and Maine State Parks.
Popham is open to the public daily.
There is near Fort Popham which is like 2 miles from the state park. I work at Spinney's which is a restaurant and a guesthouse. They rent single rooms, small apts, cottages and 2 houses.
At this time, there is no official way to do this with State Parks. If you see a memorial bench or plaque and stone it's usually done in partnership with a local garden club. I'd encourage making a request to Maine Department of Conservation and Forestry to make it happen!
Yes they only last for about 28 days. Some years are worse than others. Bug spray does not work and they leave nasty hurting bites.
62 two days ago. Upwelling made it chilly.
Yes! If you go in and walk to the right side (if you're facing the ocean) usually there's less people down that way and it will be easier to fish down there I think!
Yes
Yes, you can use a grill in the picnic area. Make sure you arrive early, especially on a weekend, to ensure you get a parking spot in the lot. They regularly fill up and then you'd need to park along the road outside the park entrance, leaving you quite a walk to haul your stuff. It's a beautiful beach and worth the drive there!
