Although Skidaway Island is an upscale community, the Cemetary and the Park are quite pleasant for a day trip or for overnight camping or RV rest. THere are several historic sites (the Cemetary was made famous by the book "Midnight in the Garden..." and several pleasant flat trails in Skidaway Island State Park take you through scrub maritime forest forest and the ubiquitous marshes

Nice state park with hiking trails and lots of trees. Sites were really nice and large. Bathhouse very clean. Many dog walkers at this park.

The sites are beautifully spread out. The trails are well maintained. The staff were very friendly and bubbly! The park entrance will surely take your breath away! It’s about a 45 minute drive to Tybee Beach but absolutely worth the drive to stay in such a beautiful and quiet park! We’d do it again. Nice kids playground area as well. The trails are easy for kids. You’ll see tons of deer!

Peaceful and pleasant visit to come in connection with nature. Campgrounds are clean and cabins are nice. Fantastic hiking trails. Pet friendly. Will visit again.

Yes, but people unleash their dogs on the trails so be careful. You are supposed to have a leash in them at all times.
Good point, I agree
They will make an exception when the park is underutilized.
yes, it is 1.25 to wash & 1.25 to dry, bring quarters because there is not a change machine & they don't keep change at the office
Most of the sites on main entrance in have full hook up. Outside sites do not have sewer hookup.
We get 15 every time we come down. Good trees for shade and hammocks.
Any size requirements for pets, we are camping in our RV?
About $25.00 Elect and water.
No there is not anywhere to swim in the park. Tybee island is about a 40 minute drive to a beach
There is a primative area that has a shelter and water. Im not sure how it is reaerved
We attended the park in August. No idea about Irma's effects on the park You need to call the park.
You'd have to hike quite a distance to the NW part of the island... mile and a half at least. Beyond that not really.
The parking lot is about the same distance from the trail. If you are able to walk on a smooth and reasonably level path, it is doubtful a cart is worthwhile.
Quite a few places to fish. You will have to do some walking to get there or drive right over the bridge near the entrance of the park and fish there.
There is a website to go on to reserve spaces. They have spots ranging from all amenities to primitive! It's an easy drive into Savannah and only a few minutes outside the gates to groceries etc. Super nice park
I believe ga state parks do have senior rates just like Florida State parks
I too am working remotely and am presently on Skidaway Island State Park. I have three (or so) bars on Verizon now. Not great, but if you have low bandwidth requirements, it is tolerable.
I liked 12
Check the website. Their reservation system has all the prices. It's not based on size of trailer but type of site. The premium sites have full hookup including sewer and are currently $53 a day. Cheaper for non sewer sites.
$5 for parking. Right now trails are closed because of storm coming.
They have both full hookup sites and sites with water and electric hookups.
We stayed at 39 and it was right next to a new bathhouse
Yes they do.
It is a regular plug in.
As long as Fish and Game considers that legal method of catch, then, yes.
The water around the island is brackish. According to some Google searches, alligators can/do venture into brackish waters. I did not see any while I was there.
Sorry I don't remember.
Im from Savannah there are plenty of gators around and they don't stay in water all the time....and they can stand salt water for awhile
Skidaway Island is on the Atlantic, but there are no access points for traditional beach visitors. Tybee Island is the beach community so that's where you go for swimming, kayaking, etc. Travel time from Skidaway depends on time of day. It's about 15 miles, I think. With the Truman Parkway and then Victory Drive, East US80. It's not too bad a drive.
Just stayed there for St. Patty's day weekend and it was $45 a night.
State parks do not recognize the Access national card . They usually give state residents senior or handicapped discounts. Some give AAA
There is a limit of 14 consecutive days, Georgia State parks
I've seen them next to the playground and pavilions
If you are using a Garmin GPS watch for the signs for the park, GPS will carry you into a gated subdivision and tight fit to get out of
You are not allowed to bring firewood into any Georgia State Park. There is a risk of introducing new diseases and pests to the area. This could be devastating to the forest! Most people are not aware of the potential for harm, please don't move firewood from one location to another. Preserve our parks and our planet.
You'll climb out of your vehicle and back in. Skidaway is a salt marsh and rather flat so not a lot of hills to climb. Also kind of hot right now through the middle of the day, but pleasant early morning and late afternoon.
Depends on the season. Warmer damp weather = more ticks. Colder dry = less ticks. Below 30° no ticks. Most Deet bug sprays repel ticks. Long pants tucked or tied to hiking boots and shirts with collars help.
Try calling...
Do you have a tent?
There is a 20% discount on camping fees for seniors from any state.
Yes. Site 40 is 50 amp with sewer and water.
Skidaway Island State Park does allow tenting, but you normally need reservations. Call them and ask. That's your best bet.
All year, close to 40 for electric site. Try reserve America website
I don't remember the exact number, but I know it goes beyond the 60's. Very large sites, in fact, the most room I have ever seen. An absolutely beautiful campground. The bath house is like being at home or better!
Roughly 10 miles away and yes they have tent camping.
Yes. It is a beautiful park with lots of trails and bike paths. The boat ramp to launch a boat or kayak is not onsite just be aware of that. It is right outside the park. I would say within a 1/8 th of a mile. The boat area is really nice , free with free parking and they have a bait shop. We kayaked all day.
Publix, banks and bar/restaurant.
It was open when I went after Irma some of the trails were pretty flooded but everything was open.
