Oh what a lovely experience! I filed for Medicare in July and have heard nothing except that the Jamacia NY office has had my application since July! I called the office (mine is in CT) and spoke with a very helpful woman named Denis. She looked up my application, verified that it was indeed in the office and then explained that it would likely be 3-4 more weeks. When I told her my health coverage ends in October, she processed my application then and there while I was on the phone. All in all, it was a less than 10 minute transaction. Denis was so personable and helpful. Thank you Denis! You transformed a routine call into one that made me smile (because you are a delight to speak with and I'm relieved!) Thanks again SSA!!!

Whomever decided the pre-recorded service for the public of America to use should be fired. Reason is the system keeps you in system of press this then press that. Then tells you to press 1 or 2 to continue then press 1 to continue & then more times With hope you won't get confused as to which option. Then i waited for long pre recorded message only to be told its closed at 4pm the time was 440pm. This system is supposed to support 50 million people. What happened to 9-5 in the name of supporting 50 million people with different academic needs.. How about an updated system to let you know how many people are before you with estimated wait time. I have to call back tomorrow now to wait another 30 minutes to get my issue resolved. Very frustrating.....

Only if you have an appointment. But I couldn't get through to make one.
They are just useless.
yes
Short answer no, only by appt and only for emergencies, but good luck getting anyone on the phone....they suck at doing what's supposed to be their job.
Currently they are only seeing people by appointment only. So if you don't call them and go down and visit them without an appointment you are out of luck. So absolutely call them first and make an appointment. It is likely that they will make an appointment for an online phone conversation, depending upon what it is that you need to accomplish. Good luck and God bless.
@Peggy Graff-Perrett you are 100% correct, and you'll see in my original post that's the major reason people are frustrated when they deal with Social Security Administration, or any other government agency for that matter.
No appointment is needed.go early if you want to leave early . Pls after two weeks call to find out if your name.is in cause I did my twice .waited 3weeks then called they didn't see my information .so I did it allover and it came in one.week later .
No, you just go there with your passport.
Yes. Most of them are still working from home & only go to the office once or twice a week
Yes by talking to a rep on the 800#
Bring all the original document, passport and birth certificate, any other original information.
No you can do walk in now. Try to go early morning.
You need to make an appointment and you can bring an interpreter but he/she also needs an appointment with you.
You no longer have to make an appointment. As of April 1st you can walk in
Did you ever get this handled? I need to do the same !
Nov -Feb is the busiest, when the volume of applications are at the highest. Add end of the year leave and this year's Omicron outbreak, makes a 5-6 week delay not uncommon. I would be you will receive notification shortly, within the next 2 weeks.
YES
Thanks Sridhar. I will
Because everything is appointments now
Online
Yes you must
Yes. I just visited this week, but Appointment only.
There's no other options. You have to call them several times to make an appointment. I tried them uncountable times and then I was able to talk with them.
@Eva Rodriguez: How do you make appointment online? I tried calling for a few days, different numbers and couldn't reach one person to schedule an appointment.
You have to call to set an appointment they arent taking walk ins
No they're only doing appointments only. There's 888 number you have to call to schedule one. They won't even let you in the building.
Yes sure. If you want to update your immigration status or report a name change or anything else on file with SSA then you may call your local office for an appointment & take a new application form along with the necessary documentation on your appointment. Keep in mind that they're only offering limited services at the moment due to Covid so there's gonna be a long waiting time to get an appointment.
Please call your local Social security office to confirm.
Good day I need to apply for a new card for Can I do a walk in?
Yes, but you will need an appointment. Dont show up without one because they wont let you in.
There is no appointment
