Is it really a national park? Compare to other national parks this one got a lower grade. I just can’t see the beauty in it (views are ok) The hikes ranged from easy to moderately hard but short.

This park is a nice getaway. The trails are short, kid friendly. Wild animals come out later in the evening. At the camp site they have a swimming pool.

Recommendations for Kids friendly trails?

Catherine Robles | Sep 30, 2021
Jessica Myren Downey | Sep 30, 2021

It depends on your kids, their ages and the level of activity they are used to. Generally I would say the Moses Spring to Rim Trail loop. I've seen plenty of kids having a nice break at the reservoir. Even with the caves closed for COVID it goes through an open cave area and up a big staircase that's pretty neat. Very fun for kids and adults. Note, if you get there too late to park at the trailhead, the hike to the trailhead can add a substantial amount of time. It also gets VERY hot in the summer so be prepared. I wouldn't recommend this park to people with very small children who are not used to hiking a lot. If you aren't the kind of person who already owns one of those backpacks you put your toddler in, I would not suggest bringing a toddler. Most trails at this park are pretty steep and rugged. Last time I was there, I saw someone trying to roll a stroller to the trailhead. There are NO stroller-friendly paths in this park.

We also used the backpack in the caves. Bring a flashlight for fun.

nicholas Macias | Sep 30, 2020
Joshua Hupp | Sep 30, 2020

The only pond I think you're asking about is probably the reservoir and we were told not to swim in it because of leeches and snakes. I doubt there's many fish and they probably wouldn't be very good is there were. There's really not a lot of water there in summer.

So there are the reserve sites that you can reserve and prepay on online, and the walk-up sites that are first come, first serve. My experience at other national parks has been to grab a walk-up site early, then pay when the park office or store opens.

The RV sites have electrical hookups (the standard 120 volts with 30 amp breakers) and there is a dump station in the campground.
