Absolutely beautiful art here. Many great pieces of history from all over the world. Loved the statues. Only negative is the layout is literally a maze. Different art areas intertwine and you don’t know which way to go. You’ll go in circles, go in areas you’ve been in but other than the confusing lay out this is a must see.

Want to give 5 stars but after walking the entire West building, looking for an open entrance, I ended up going to the East building. A great range of art for many tastes. I loved seeing not one but two pieces from Magritte. Many pieces from Picasso (not my personal favorite). A room of Modigliani. I didn’t get to finish but I would recommend it as a place to visit.

The most comprehensive collection of European art in USA, with FREE admission. See impressionists, then walk across the hall to portraits of Napoleon and more.
Will there be daily talk on the Vermeer Exhibit like the one at 2pm today? Will the introductory video be available at the museum (one we see at the website)? Thank you.

There is a video in the sectiojnof the museum.where the exhibition is. Long line to access the exhibition but beautiful paintings
Handicapp entrance is on west or east side of the building. East side is the better one. Elevators will be near the entrance to your right once inside the building.
No illegal items obviously while purses and bags (worn on ONE shoulder) are subject to search at entry door but no body frisk. No consumption of foods or water inside bags while browsing priceless museum pieces but a quick gulp on the benches in the Rotunda is fine.
Check out nga.gov for information on past shows. Or while visiting go to the NGA bookstore on the concorse level next to the cafeteria. There are books from many of the past shows. I have also found a few YouTube videos from past shows.
Can we check our luggage there? I want to go straight to the airport from the museum but will have my bag with me.

Yes, you can check your luggage as long as you are at the National Gallery of Art.
Is there parking

Richard Cates | Sep 30, 2019
There is limited disability parking, all other parking is pay to park. I suggest parking on 6th Street. Get there before 8am and only pay 15 dollars for the day. You can grab a good breakfast and coffee next to the garage at Cosi coffee shop.

So you don't damage anything. In NYC at the Met they ask people carry your backpack in your hand or in front of you but sometimes they don't really enforce it.

Nice, but there are more 16th, 17th, 18th centure art than 19th and 20th
I like; the impressionismo...
Best bet is a parking garage. Parking is simply expensive in DC. Honestly I'd just keep the car in the hotel garage or lot and use public transportation or those scooter things everywhere.
I bought an old oil painting quite a few years ago. l found the same picture in your art book by Goya # 86 Señora Sabasa Garcia. Did Goya make more than one copy?
There are a few in the East Building but none in the West building. However, there are elevators for all the levels. And if you have mobility issues, just tell one of the guards and they will make sure you have access.
In the information room you can access the Gallery's inventory to see if they have it and if it's on display. But if you are only going to see that painting it's best to call.
They are open and today is the last day for Vermeer. The line looks super long but doesn't take long to get through. That said, they let large waves of people through so it gets crowded quickly. So if you have a stroller or a wheelchair it is a little harder to navigate unless you get there early or go to that particular exhibit closer to closing.
The museum will be open in Sunday from 11am according to a notification on their website. To the best of my understanding the museums would be closed starting Monday as a result of a government shutdown.
Will the national gallery be open on Tuesday, January 9th?

Will gallery be open on the THUSDAY?
Leonid Shulman | Sep 30, 2018
Arthur Taylor | Sep 30, 2018
The gallery is open Thursdays except whenever Christmas Day and New Year's Day falls on a Thursday. Here is the info direct from their website: "The National Gallery of Art is open Monday–Saturday from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. The Gallery is closed December 25 and January 1."
You might check with your local arts/antiques dealers. They are generally best equipped to answer these kinds of inquiries. The NGA would not be in a position to know their value. Someone else said eBay, that's typically a good indicator of their value (if you can find a significant sample of similar products).

In the souvenir shop in ground level, you can get each for a few dollars totalling a couple hundred$ for the whole collection, even cheaper at Walliemart for the popular Raphael or van Gogh.
