A place from my childhood but there's really not much beach at the state park, atypical northern California grit rather then sand. A few miles north 10 mile beach is better but mackerricher is a nice park and worth a visit

Beautiful beach beautiful walkway. Sat with two nuns at the end of the boardwalk as we watch the Tide roll over the rocks great conversation early mornings are best in the winter

Beautiful!!! Great place to walk and contemplate nature. We got to see the sea creatures have fun in the water. When we went it was kinda cold so would definitely recommend a sweater. :)

One of my favorite state parks and a great place to look for whales or check out tide pools! Make sure you go at low tide.

Yep. Sandy dunes mixed with wooded areas too. Sweet spot. Sites 40-53 or so boarder the dunes
Traditionally memorial day weekend
About 3 - 3.5 miles as the crow flies. The haul road is just about a straight shot and pretty to boot.
You need quarters but it's great hot water
Campground is a very short walk to the beaches and you'll get plenty of vitamin sea. As a treat, you'll see the ocean too.
When making reservations you have to indicate that, calling to ask the source is always a good idea if you're planning on traveling any distance. Reserve California is easier to get a hold of person. Mendocino county office or the actual campground kiosk.
Yes. I saw multiple people fishing from the rocks near the beach
Yes, day use is free here, and dogs can go on the boardwalk. 👍
Most of the campground is sheltered by coastal trees. They don't have thick foliage like redwood trees or something like that, but the campground has quite a bit of shade. They also block a considerable amount of wind.
If you made a reservation your spot will probably be reserved and you will just pay up the next day. Not totally sure, I'd contact the actual folks that work the campsites and see what they'd want you to do.
Well, we went, and there is no more glass 😟 big big deception. June 2019
Actually you have to go thru the state parks site. Parks.ca.gov. And i think they only start taking on May 1st, which is wierd.
If you're camping in East or west pine, there are trails to the beach, not a far walk,& nice wide trails..if you're camping in Laguna point, there is also a trail, but a longer walk...it cuts through the hike & bike camp sites, once you get to the haul road it's a nice easy walk...
No !! It's has never been closed for me on the weekends not even on holidays. Just this weekend 12/23/2017 I enjoyed hiking and walking up and down the coast good 2 hours and not that crowded.
You can reserve a site online or they have areas of get a space upon arrival until full. I believe it is $40.00 a night.
Go to reservecalifornia.com
They are open year round but always check with their website for any closure. Some sites are still closed so are the group sites due to the pandemic. It's usually chilly there and the average high is around the upper or lower 60's or even 50's in October.
Surf fishing paradise all along the coast. Tricky with in the rocks n tidepools tho.
No, one of the best parts of going to that park. Free entry and free parking for as long as you want to stay.
Yes you can bike there, but not on the boardwalk. There are trails along the bluffs, and there is the old haul road also.
Sadly there are not any electrical hook ups there. But it's still a great camp.
Take the bike trail from the main beach south past the pudding Creek bridge. You'll get to a public beach there, and there are three small beaches.
They are open. But only for reservations.
None
None that I'm aware of. Just tent & RV sites. Theres a couple of hotels nearby, but I have no idea about rates
Yes, normally
There is a video tour on the website of the campsites I believe.
Sea glass is at Glass Beach. It's actually in Fort Bragg.
You can build a small fire on the beach. There is camping north of there in the dunes you can camp anywhere.. with a lot of sand in your tent
Yes. But unsure if size is limited
I believe it's $35. Check their website
We enjoyed campsite 69 when we went, but from what we could tell in our time there most of them are roughly the same in size and shadedness. I would say that the primary concern would be proximity to the restrooms or perhaps closer to the front of the campground (where they sell firewood), since most other factors are pretty consistent.
No! Day use only is free camping has a fee But there are many nice sites
Yes there is. You'll probably have more luck down the road at Glass Beach, but generally all along the Fort Bragg/Mendocino coast is a good place to look for seaglass.
No. Campfires have been suspended all over Mendocino county due to extremely dry conditions
We went camping last week and showed up around 11 am. All i did was checked in at the gate, paid and set up. My space was empty that day.
If your reservation starts on 7/14 @3 pm, but you get there 12 hours early, then, no... you won't be able to take the spot until 1 - 3 in the afternoon on 7/14.
I was charged $10 per night for this past weekend.
Yes. First come first serve.
The reason it shows completely booked is that they are transitioning from Reserve America to new system Reserve California and phasing in parks. Mackerricher isn't live yet, so everything is first come first served...indicated by the computer saying nothing is available for reservations online. They could have done a better job of explaining on the website. There are a couple more options in the area. Russian Gulch SP is south of Ft. Bragg and some camping on the Headlands...can't remember their names.
Yes they have RV hook ups. Its a nice rv park, except sometimes the fog rolls in for most of the day. We liked it. I live in ft bragg.. There are hook up. Stay for a week its great.
Campground hosts have tokens u can buy. It is a dollar for 5min.
