From the trailhead at Colton, it's a slight descent which follows the river. It's an easy walk for families, but wouldn't be good for a walker or stroller. There are spots that break off the trail to the river along the way. Watch for toots and toe trippers. Also watch for poison ivy, close to the parking area and where the trails break towards the river.

We came here on a whim. The hike to the river is short and easy enough for young children. The river is very pretty but the fauna were the stars of the show. There were cedar waxwings absolutely everywhere! There must have been well over 30 …

Absolutely gorgeous! I will definitely be going again. The trails aren't too difficult and the history notes along the way make this trail extra enjoyable, giving you a nice break to read them before continuing.

Always fun hiking Stone Valley. Each side of the trail is 3.2 miles and CAN be done as one big loop, or you can stay on the one side and enjoy the views. From Colton's entry, the up-close views start at less than half a mile in.

Kristen, It's a 6ish mile loop (3.1ish per side) - crossing the river on the upstream and downstream ends. You can walk up one side, cross over a bridge and walk back on the other, and cross the other bridge back to your car. Or as Melissa suggests, you can do just one leg if you have two cars.
