We did the loop trail, 4.3 miles. Strenuous for sure! I’d say it’s definitely worth the views. There are many many steps, I seen a few children on this trail (I took my brother he is 5, on a 5 mile hike on brp & I will never do it again he was being carried & asleep by the end) and many many dogs. I personally wouldn’t bring either on the whole loop trail just because it gets steep in many areas but if you want to go for it! *** if you plan on doing the waterfall(s) just know it’s just as strenuous as there are many flights of steps here. If your in good shape I’m sure it’s a breeze for you but for those of us who aren’t (including myself) it was a workout for sure!! If you’re able to do it though don’t hesitate.

We enjoyed our time camping here. We RV camped on a water/ electric site. The sites were well maintained and clean. You could tell the section we were in had some water drainage issues at time and there were a few mushy areas. However, the drive was paved and it had a nice rough sand covered picnic and fire ring area (the sand did track into the RV though). Sites were big, no overhanging branches. The stream ran through the campground which was pretty. We hiked part of the Stone Mountain loop then down to the bottom of the falls. It was beautiful. We continued down to the middle falls that was pretty but didn't have a great view of the entire falls due to vegetation. (There are a couple place along the trail between the base of the first falls and the middle falls where you need to walk through a small stream or hop from rock to rock.) This was an excellent hike but I think we counted 436 stairs. We also hiked up to the Hutchinson Homestead which was quaint and informative and offered beautiful views of Stone Mountain. The old home, barn and buildings were interesting as well. We also hiked Widows Creek Falls which was a very short hike from the road side parking and was very picturesque.

We parked in the lower trailhead lot and hiked to the waterfall. It was definitely a good workout (and the scenery wasn’t too shabby either). We made a rookie mistake and took the Stone Mountain trail both to the waterfall and back, but the lower loop trail would have been a little faster and easier for the return trip. I highly recommend this place! (I would also highly recommend bringing water and snacks)

Stone Mountain is my favorite trail in the area. The main loop is a perfect length. Part of the trail runs along a beautiful creek and part of it offers wide-open views of the maintains. The trail is incredibly well maintained. It can be strenuous at times, but the views are 100% worth the effort.

You may carry concealed with proper permit in NC state parks, however you may not carry in Visitor Centers or offices. The only exception to this rule is that you cannot carry ammunition or loaded weapons at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, or Kerr Lake as these areas are Managed By The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
No. Calling and asking would be better than asking Google
Yes, but you need a special permit first. You can't just show up and get hitched. I'd more recommend contacting the church in the park, as it's a pretty place.
Bring your cooler. Make sure its small enough to hike in. Park closes at 8:00. Good Luck with the light show though, it's not at this stone mountain park. I'm sure it will be nice when you find it. Let us know because the rest of may want to go.
Hours vary by month. There is a park hours sign at the entrance to the park and at every parking lot. Or just call the office. Be aware that the hours listed on Google are usually wrong. It's not true that the park closes "at dusk". Be sure to check the time if you have any intention of staying late, because being in the park after hours is a misdemeanor.
Yes there is good fishing for all. Sometimes it's crowded but lots of opportunities. I would suggest you study the trout fishing rules and regulations of your not familiar with them.
If you park in the lower parking lot, you will have a less strenuous hike to and from the lower and middle falls. If you park in the upper parking lot you will hike down stone mountain falls to the lower and middle falls so the return trip back up is a little more strenuous. Side note the trail to the lower falls you will have to cross two creeks, the first crossing in knee deep and the second crossing is ankle deep. Either way you go it is a beautiful hike.
We camped there recently, I was told 2 tents per site.
The Stone Mountain Loop trail will take you to the summit. Total distance is about 4.5 miles.
You can NOT open carry in any NC state park. It's a state law. However, if you've got a CCW you can conceal carry in all NC state parks. A notable exception are the state's three recreation areas (Falls Lake, Kerr Lake and Jordan Lake) where carrying of any kind is illegal.
Inside the park a bit. Stop at visitor center for map.
Nope. The equestrian trail doesn't have designated campsites where you can stay with the horse.
$15 per night for non-electric sites. I am not sure about military discounts though. Thank you for your service, sir. 🇺🇸
It's only about a half-mile to get to the falls from the upper parking lot, but be warned: from there you're only getting to the top of the falls, and you'll have 300+ stairs to go down and then back up again to see the falls. It's best to start from the lower parking lot to the falls, where it would be a 3 mile round-trip hike there and back.
It took my family 3.5 hours. It's the stairs that get you. They are steep , rocky and plentiful. Unless you've been working out alot , you have to take a lot of stops . Bring water !!
You can fish for trout out there you just have to have a North Carolina license. Stone Mountain is free access
The e.g. sites are extremely nice. The driveways are paved for each site, the site is crushed stone. Each site has lantern hook, picnic table, and fire ring. Each site also has 30 amp, 50 amp, and water hookup. I enjoy the sites that back up to creek.
It actually qualified as destruction of state property to forage for downed wood and use that in a campfire, and doing so does harm wildlife habitat. You can buy wood at the campground station in bundles or bring your own.
Call or go online to get the right answer about your pop up camper. Most were backed in the level driveway. State parks no cell phone towers, no tv towerd, and no internet, unless you have a satellite dish.
The gates will be locked and you will end up waiting for a Ranger to escort you out of the park. Of course mistakes happen and people lose track of time, but be aware that remaining in a park after posted gate hours is a misdemeanor, so be sure to keep an eye on the clock if you plan to be leaving near closing time. A vehicle remaining past closing sends a signal to the staff that someone might be in trouble, and you end up getting the cavalry out looking for you.
If you arrive after the park is closed, there is an after-hours gate located at the main entrance off of Frank Parkway that you can get into even if the main park gate is locked. If it's too late that the campground staff has gone home, just go ahead and set up camp and the staff will talk to you in the morning.
There is a park office however you can ride on the road as long as u wear a helmet
Calling for rain on and off today.
No but there are cabin rentals just outside the park.
Stone Mountain has a campground where you can pay to camp. To be clear, you can't camp just anywhere in the park. Camping anywhere besides a designated campsite is actually a misdemeanor and the Park Rangers will come looking for you to give you a ticket, which is expensive.
Yes this site has water and electric hook-ups but each is different. When making reservations please specify which you will need. BEAUTIFUL place!
Open all winter wont let you backpack in snow unless you are already there
