Terrible service; waited in line longer than the flight to Oakland. Completely understaffed, poorly managed and no cars-- yet the line had more than 30 people waiting. Shame on Budget/Avis.

Not a great experience. They tried to give us a car with a tire that was torn in two places. This could have been dangerous and could have caused an accident. when I brought it to their attention it took waiting back in line all over again basically wasting a few hours of our time just to get another car.

This Budget/Avis/Payless at Oakland Airport leave a lot to be desired. Completely understaffed and not enough cars. Waited longer in line to process and check in and get a car (which wasn’t the car I booked) than yo fly to Oakland. More than an hour in line. Poorly managed and no staff. Go elsewhere to rent.

When picking up my vehicle in Oakland the gal who was helping me may have had some faulty equipment. She has me swipe and ask for my ID and cc three times before sending me to wait for her manager. The agent said because I had arrived late to my pick up time, my original rate I booked at would not be valid and had to be adjusted. I tried to explain that my flight was changed but she said I was still late by over an hour and said there’d be a rate difference. I had no idea pick up times were so strict nowadays and grace periods seem to be a thing of the past. While both the agent and manager were nice, the only instruction given to me when everything was said and done was to “go to M27 and read [my] text messages”. Nothing was discussed about my insurance coverage or if I wanted to prepay fuel. When I asked the manager if I needed any paperwork she said no and told me I’d receive a text. The car I received smelled mildly of cigarette smoke, it’s main console screen did not illuminate and seemed unresponsive to any buttons being pressed (with the exception of the radio button, but I could not see what radio station I was listening to or what the time was because again the screen did not illuminate) and lastly my fuel tank was nearly on empty! I received no paperwork at the desk and no one checked any fuel or damage details as I left OAK. Therefore once I returned the car at SFO, they of course charged me for prepaid fuel and I’m sure the manager arranged for insurance coverage even though I preferred to use my own GEICO insurance. Thankfully the agent in SFO allowed me to show proof that the tank was empty when I picked it up (I took many photographs in OAK) and adjusted the prepaid fuel. Overall, felt a bit jipped and do not feel confidence in the staff and policies of Budget Rental Car. I usually feel as if I can trust a rental car agent but this was an unreal experience.
