The shuttle buses run on a relatively casual schedule; however, once you get to the rental center you can be on your way in just a few minutes if you have a Gold membership. Returns are usually quick and easy too.

Flight was delayed so we tried calling several times to let them know so we could keep our reservation, I would go through the menu options to speak to a local representative after calling the 510 number and it would ring for 2 minutes without anyone picking up and then it would disconnect. We eventually called the main customer service number where they told me a different way to get through the menu options to get a hold of the local office. I had him put notes on my reservation just in case and then tried calling the location again following his instructions and the same thing, 2 minutes of ringing with no answer. Travel is frustrating and stressful enough without being able to get into contact with the rental car agency at our destination.

The free shuttle is from the airport to the rental center.Then you walk to your car because Hertz has got the car parking near the buildings.One minute walking.

I don't know honestly because my reservation was incomplete after they took my money they said I didn't meet there requirements and is yet to respond on the matter

Yes, you can, I'm an employee at Hertz, leave key in dropbox when you drop off the car and someone who comes in at 6am will close the contract and email your receipt.

I would recommend dropping luggage off at terminal as far as suitcases being heavy but make sure he knows he can't check them in Oakland is a stickler for ID to accompany luggage if you're flying Southwest they have curbside

If you are a gold member you should just be sble to go to the lot and grab your car
I don't currently have any rental car reservations, but I have picked up a car a few hours late due to flight delays with no problem. If you return it late, they will probably charge you. If you are worried, you should call ahead and let them know, especially if the counter might close by the time you pick up.
There's a shuttle at the airport terminal, it takes you to the different rental car offices/car rental pick up.
