Awesome place! Family fun! We took 3 kids ages 6 to 11. They let my 7 year old nephew in for free. We all had a great time and there is lots to learn. The kids had a blast learning about hard times in the older days. You get to see a lot of the prison and explore freely. It wasn't over crowded, even for a Saturday. Will definitely be going again and we're looking forward to the paranormal tours.

Really enjoyed checking this out. The mountains around the facility were absolutely beautiful. The pen has some very interesting history. I'm a true crime junky so i wish there werw only more about who was imprisoned there. The buildings need a bit more labeling and the self guided route could use a little more labeling but over all it was really interesting. Hope I can go back some day.

Honestly, I wouldn't waste your time and money coming here. The guy that used to be an inmate here seems nice and has some cool stories but other than that it is quite dry and boring. At $20 a person I expected much more from this place than just walking around aimlessly through their convoluted arrow mess just to honestly see the same thing over and over again. You can pretty much spend like 20 to 30 minutes here and see everything. It is worth stopping in the gift shop and taking a look around but other than that I wouldn't recommend paying for the "tour" tickets. In my opinion it's worth spending the $20 elsewhere.

What an a amazing place! My husband and I ride our motorcycle to Brushy at least 4 times a year. The entire staff and I mean ENTIRE staff is on point and so helpful!! I can tell you from experience that the tasting of End of the Line …

I wanted to go to the Haunted prison so bad but I guess I waited to long just my luck..😰
Never had a chance to visit inside yet only the restaurant/distillery
The prison, which reopened as a tourist attraction in 2018, was originally on 286 acres in Morgan County. Two hundred acres were added to the adjoining Frozen Head State Park through an easement. Now, the 86 acres of the Brushy Mountain prison tract is owned by the Morgan County Economic Development Board and leased to May and Waddington. The gentleman that there referring to is Brian May and Pete Waddington
Be sure to buy tickets at gift shop before going to prison. They dont sell tickets at main entrance.
While my wife and I had visited a guard that was there on the guided tours said the prisoners in the hole were given two buckets 1 for water and 1 for bathroom needs
Yes i belive it is like 1200 dollars though
I don't think there is a complete list of names other then the " famous prisoners "
🤔 good question
Yes tickets are bought per each individual, purchase them in the distillery building
No petro on devils loop that is where brushy state prison is but its only about a 40 mile loop
James earl ray had his picture on the wall but dont think that was his number
The tour is well worth it! There is a tour guide there named Ted that is 4th generation guard at the prison. He tells amazing stories! Go hungry and eat at Wardens Table. The food is fantastic! Right there on prison grounds.
No. They are separate. You get the tickets from the gift shop in there though. The restaurant is to the left past the goods.
If you use a tour guide 2.5 to 3.0 hours if you just walk at your own speed at least 2 hours. But can spend all afternoon if you read and see everything.
If the main gate is open you can drive past the giftshop to the main parking area for the prison and take pictures of front of the prison and other buildings just can't go inside of any of the buildings except the gift shop and wardens table
Man, Idk. I've only been there once with a bunch of motorcycle rider friends, but I'D LOVE TO DO THE PARANORMAL TOUR
Nope! Tickets are sold in the gift shop at the bottom of the hill :)
$12 per person. You can do a guided tour for $20 but you have to book 2 weeks in advance and have to have a group of 25 or more
In my personal opinion 90% of the tour is inside, but to go to the different blocks you will have to go outside to enter other buildings.
Around $12 for self guided. If you look them up you'll get some details on that including other tours
No they are not! We went 2 weeks ago. No mask anywhere. My friend is there TODAY...and still no mask. Thank goodness!!
There were many prisoners that died while incarcerated there. Others died under suspicious circumstances. Prison violence claimed more lives than bullets or the electric chair.
They do overnight tours. You can do the shorter one until 2 am or you can do the longer one until I think 6 am
You can get through the lower levels but upstairs only access is stairs
They reopen on April 1st!
Just for the season.
Try the Killer Potato at The Warden's Table. Brushy isn't far from Oak Ridge - seemed to be plenty of lodging and dining options there.
Fall Hours are Thursday-Sunday, 10:30am-7:00pm, last tickets for tours are sold at 5:00pm. Closed Monday-Wednesday.
There are areas that are accessible. However, as stated above, many areas would be inaccessible due to lack of ramps, etc. I would say that standard wheelchair may have more difficulty as some of the outside areas are grassy.
No there isnt any air Conditioning! We were just there 2 weeks ago and yes the restaurant and shop has A/C but the actual Penitentiary itself NO! But it was well worth it
Right now Sat and Sun and the restaurant there called the wardens table and a gift shop with moonshine to is sat and sun right now summer they are open more days hands down the best ever
Go to sheriff's Dept or prison and apply. They will train you. Tennessee requires you be certified with in the year. A basic certification takes about a week, some prison training is about 6weeks long and they usually will train you. Hope that helps.brushy mountain has long since closed but there are numerous jails and prisons in the state.
It is a self guided tour. They do have other tours like the Flashlight Tour. Check their website.
On the site it said that the flashlight tour is 25 but they've already been sold out
Don't know about kids,,, best to check the website.
Scenic River Inn Motel $50 3.1 (54) · 3.0 mi 2-star hotel Modest motel with free Wi-Fi
None of it is air conditioned. Well the movie room is. 17 min long show.
I would contact them directly via their Facebook page or their website, if you don't wanna call.
16 tons
The only things you can't see is max security and the hole and the mess hall which are both down some stairs you can go in the courtyard and the laundry room and the museum and into the yard in a chair.
Dwight Yoakam
they are assuming about 400. UT is coming to do a scan of the graveyard so they can have as accurate number as possible. They are planning on doing a walking trail around the cemetery.
It all really depends on how much and how in-depth you want to see and read and how many pictures you want to take. I guess you could say an average person would spend two hours plus the gift shop and Distillery
https://tourbrushy.com/paranormal-tours Here's the website for more info on that.
Maybe, I would check first. I'm not sure.
