The Shrine Drive Thru Tree is a must see! We went from San Francisco to the Redwoods and just had to drive through a tree! The Shrine Tree is awesome to see, you just can't describe the experience in words! Just be prepared to go in verrrry slowly, there's not much room! We had a small rental car (a Ford Fusion) and we barely squeezed through! In the Redwoods these trees never cease to amaze us with what they can withstand, growing and continuing to tower over us through any devastating event, it really made us say "wow!" You should go!

This one was a tight squeeze in a mustang convertible, but we made it through. The parking area has a couple of tree houses that added to our fun visit. We also drove up on the redwood and got some pictures. This was a nice stop!

Still standing at the end of December 2017 with the help of some cables.
Ik don't no of its open in December.. I was there in oktober in the afternoon and it was already getting dark there.
You can call ahead and find out the exact dimensions of the opening. Then you can measure your own vehicle and judge for yourself. We ended up parking and walking through, but it was still a lot of fun to pose for pictures, and laugh and watch the other cars driving through.
Agreed, $8 per car. Highly recommend the gift shop for smaller-sized wood souvenirs!

Yes the road was actually in good shape.
While I was there in the fall and could drive thru it, even without being able to do that I think it's something very worthwhile to visit and would encourage others to do so and patronize some local businesses
