Very beautiful place! We parked at the parking area and it was not a long hike to the summit at all! The drive however to get up their is a bit bumpy. You may need 4 wheel drive If it is raining or just rained.

I hike so many miles I can't remember exactly if these pics are of Max Patch but I think they are. Max patch was amazing to see!

If you're willing to go about an hour outside of Asheville, it's a beautiful journey up to an amazing spot. The trail from the parking area to the bald is relatively light and brief, especially for the incredible viewing availed to you. 360° of pure natural wonderment on a clear day. It hasn't been too crowded any of the times I've been there, and there's other great trails as well. Parking is somewhat limited and there are no facilities, but we manage, right?

There is not charge what so ever of any kind. If you can drive a decent size RV up the mountain I salute you. If you make it to the top... Park RV where you can, as far as I saw there are no restrictions.
Yes and it costs you nothing but a great experience 🙂
I would recommend going into Hot Sorings, many camp grounds, but there is a parking area at Max Patch and you could camp there
Yes, it gets extra windy up there due to the lack of trees.
Absolutely camp up top. Generally not right on the trail. Leave the very top clean so you don't mess up the view for anyone else.
There are some great sites a very short distance off of the bald on the Appalachian trail. Just inside the tree line. Multiple sources online say that they do not recommend camping on top of the bald. Especially with ant chance of a storm. Whether you decide to camp on the bald or on the AT, the sites are all first come first serve. Good luck!
About half a mile to the bald. It is a very easy hike on a wide trail. Easy to access with strollers.
