Appalachian Trail hikers - the side trail up to the tower is little steep, but not long. There are one or two possible camp sites along the way. The Tower itself has a great viewing platform - sturdy, covered, with great views in all directions.

I love remote out-of-the-way places, and Rich Mountain Fire Tower is one of those places that really satisfies. I visited on a stormy day which provided for some spectacular pictures. The gravel road up is quite steep in places and very rough, but this made the trip up even more adventurous. The view is awesome and I actually woke an AT hiker who had spent the night in the tower due to a bear in the area below.

Stopped by while hiking the Appalachian Trail. Its up a ridge, but a great view. First Fire Tower I climbed on the trail. It does have a security camera. Did not see a warning not to climb.

Very impressive observation tower! It features great views, and a spring right near it. Accessible from the Appalachian Trail via a .2 mile side trail. It was very sturdy, not like some of the rickety ones elsewhere on the trail, so that was an extra plus. Features plenty of space up top, a great place to stop for a snack.

It's just east of where the A.T. crosses 25/70.
