This lounge is OK. Compared to offerings with airlines it is way below the standard. My wife and I were in a sleeper car and we had a four hour layover. Having a place to put your bags is nice. The lounge itself is decent and well appointed. Snack and drink service was pretty mediocre. Sodas were cold when put out, but there was no ice to keep them cold. Snack bags were available like doritos and lays products. The most laughable thing was the "hot food" - a cup of Cheetos red hot mac and cheese that you had to put water into. Coffee was terrible and we left to sightsee and get coffee at the nearby starbucks. If its free use the lounge. If you have to pay for it you are wasting your money.

Worst lounge I can ever remember being in. The Snacks are chips and pretzels, no water, Uncomfortable seats and no bathrooms. When I asked the attendant for a bottle of water she pointed to the water fountain. I definitely wouldn’t pay to come in here. I only regret that I was looking forward to this as a perk to my sleeper car reservation.

This is a spectacular place to relax while changing trains or waiting to board a train while at Chicago's Union Station. Admittance is restricted to business class, first class and sleeper car passengers. It is a nice lounge with WiFi, comfortable seating, refreshments and other services. I have heard there are showers as part of the lounge. This seems like a nice feature but I have never used or even seen them. When possible I try to travel business class simply so I can take advantage of the Metropolitan Lounge.

I love this Metropolitan Lounge. The Lounge is recently renovated and very spacious allowing for everyone to spread out. Snacks, coffee, and drinks are available. There are plenty of electrical outlets and tables to spread out and work. Staff are professional and thoughtful. Keep up the great work!

I never use the showers in the lounge but I did see them. And there is more than enough room. You will be very pleased with the lounge since it's been remodeled.
If you have a coach ticket, inquire how to purchase a "lounge pass" with Amtrak points for Chicago's Union station. Also I believe you can store bags for a fee, but can't remember where! 😕 I remembered, there are lockers at the coach lounge, baggage claim, and Red Caps will store also for a fee!
Full bar. Pay. But very reasonable. Sodas, snack etcetera free
My smoking friend said he had to go upstairs outside on the street.
With a business class or sleeper ticket access to Metropolitan Lounge is free and secure. Can also purchase day ticket for $35. They also provide luggage storage . Showers available there upon request , never utilized them but haven't heard anything bad about them.
I'm sure you've the customer service area by now. Enjoy
I am not familiar with Washington I haven't stopped there with Amtrak
There is an elevator down to near the entrance but you can't use the door directly into the lounge. You have to go into the front if the lounge in order to check in.
A day pass to the Amtrak Legacy Lounge is available to coach passengers for $20. To get access to the Metropolitan Lounge, you need to be a business or sleeper class passenger (coach passengers can buy a day pass for $50, I think). I would consider upgrading to business class. It's probably less than the $50 pass, and the on-board perks are pretty nice.
At the time I was there, a mother and her child of about 5 or 6 were stretched out with blankets and resting comfortably on what appeared to be a wide seat or small bed. So, yes, mothers with children are treated royally.
Multiple. Usually the big (cheap) ones, cheddar, swiss etc
You can use lounge for a day but they ask $50 . Call lounge for more info
There IS BUSINESS CLASS ON LAKE SHORE LIMITED WHICH IS A LONG HAUL TRAIN
Yes, you can wait in the Metropolitan lounge with your train ticket.
There is probably an expiration date on that pass. They are pretty strict about who gets into the Metropolitan Lounge.
No
A separate lounge is used for paid access. Go into the Grand Hall. Someone from Amtrak will direct you
Yes. Any first class accommodation does
