Steak 'n Shake

I love Steak ‘n Shake, growing up in the south and doing road trips through Indiana to get to chicago. I went here a few months ago for the first time expecting the same flavors and level of quality for a good price and was sadly disappointed. The service wasn’t great and even more so was the burger I ordered. It lacked any flavor I was so shocked! I don’t think I’ll be visiting this location again. I really hope their food and service gets better so I’ll want to come back!

They're good when they have all the items needed for good burgers and good shakes. They often run out of ingredients for their most popular shakes. They also tend to run out of things like tomatoes and lettuce fairly often. They address that and will receive a better rating.

Aside from our orders taking forever both times we’ve come here, there’s a lot of unprofessionalism, understaffing, and sanitary issues. For example, the worker didn’t take off his gloves to count cash money, put on new gloves, or wash his hands before moving forward to deal with food. Also they completely disregard the order board and chronology and served several people whole meals and shakes before they handed me my two shakes. One of the workers didn’t step in to deal with the line and once at his post, stood there sipping his drink and then refilled his drink as we all waited for him to do something for people in line.

First I walked in then was informed to step outside & order online. Upon waiting 20 minutes for my food, I was told that hotdogs hasn’t been available for 3/4 months, milkshake was horrible & I couldn’t be refunded!! I’ve called, called, called & left 2 voicemails!! The young man told me he was a Mgr for a month & didn’t know how to refund me. He offered me something different, but my daughter doesn’t eat anything else from Steak n Shake other than the hotdogs. They are very hard to contact, phone goes directly to voicemail during business hours & my voicemails hasn’t been checked obviously. My next step is to file a complaint, because I’ve also left a message at the corporate office & again no response! The next time I’m in the area, I’ll go to the restaurant to speak with a more experienced manager to see about my refund.
