Let's be real, government bureaucracy is never fun. But I gave them five stars because of Ms Jackie Mercer, who works in the office. When I called due to a license issue she walked me through exactly what I needed to do to get it fixed as quickly as possible. And then when I dropped off my paperwork, she looked to make sure everything was in order and answered other questions for me. Through the whole she was friendly, calm, and reassuring. I appreciate so much the help she gave me during a very stressful time!

Very unorganized organization. I applied for endorsement for RN & APN licenses. They approved the RN and everything for the APN except the SON. This is June and they will not approve my SON until the Committee convenes in Sept. The irony is that they accepted the transcript from school, no problem. They did inform me they I could apply for a temporary license until then. $$$$ I don't think so, why would I spend more money. I have applied for APN licenses in other states without an issue. My school's NP program has never had a issue with being accredited. The KBON is in need of revamping.

Attention: Applicants for transfers of Licenses. Kansas State Board of Nursing will not help you throughout the process. You have to do it your own. They will not let you know what you're lacking, unless you checked on their website that gives "unclear" rules and guidelines and procedures for transfers of licenses --and CALL THEM FOR FOLLOWUP. ....even though you filed your initial application for transfer many months ago. In my case, if I had not followed up after a month I would not know what to do. Initially, a month before, I was told to just wait first for their response by mail and I've been waiting for 49 years but no mail came, only until I called them up and from then I was told by Rae Byrd, Licensing Sup., "Have you read (from our website), what info. you lack?" You don't need to wait a mail from us...." Hers statement was beside the fact that her staff told me many many weeks ago that I should wait for the "pocket" they will send me by mail first. ..and this despite the fact that I applied for "a speedy process." What speedy process are they talking about, more than a month of waiting for their response by mail and still nothing?" I told her that their website gives unclear guidelines on what to do next. I learned my lessons the hard way for waiting on nothing, "yes, speedy process for nothing. That's what I got." Rae Byrd the supervisor over there should be fired, she's not deserving the position she has. She's not helpful, they're all over the place, the right hand doesn't know what the left hands does, their website is very very confusing and she lacks empathy. Any applicant will be frustrated...so watch out and beware. .

Oh Kansas Board of Nursing...how do I loathe thee. Filled out my renewal online...nothing processed. Called last week and was told the wrong link was placed in my profile and I had to mail a paper application...and that if it was postmarked by end of last week and got to Topeka by yesterday everything would be fine. Come today...the last day of my license...website still shows nothing. I called and was told they hadn’t received my application!!!! USPS tracking showed it was delivered yesterday morning. I asked if I brought another application and hand delivered it if it would be processed and was told it could be 7-10 business days...meaning 2 weeks I couldn’t work. A coworker of mine was blessed with the same situation. We hopped into her car and drove to Topeka. Just as We pulled into Topeka, the Board of Nursing must have caught wind we were getting close...we’re both showing licenses that now expire in two years. We both called multiple times over the last month, always getting a different answer about what we needed to do...and that’s only when we got a live person. Multiple voicemails were left and never received a return call. Maybe if I start now I will be able to renew in two years.

You would have to take an RN refresher course approved by the KS board of nursing. Go to the website and look or search for "refresher course". Once complete you can pay your fees and get your license reinstated.
