*No help* to a Canadian in distress. I was 10 min. late (two crash delays on the long drive); they could have taken doc.s and fees, worked on it next day. They would not receive - not even the declaration of lost/stolen passport! That left a valid travel document at 4 days' risk of abuse until I could get to the Consulate in L.A. Luckily, folks there were splendid.
Much at S.F. Consulate was a big hassle, but casually ignoring an at-risk passport is to me a severe neglect of duty in today's security-tense world.

I called twice and made sure that walk ins were available for their notary services since I’d be making a 2 hour drive. I got there and they told me I needed an appointment. They are so disorganized, unclear about their own policies, and honestly just have no idea what they are doing.
Yes you do. Only citizens of the US are allowed to get a visa upon arrival. Unless your country is exempted, you will need a visa before visiting Canada.
I am going to Canada in June. I plan on flying into Buffalo, New York and renting a car. I will be driving the rental car into Canada. What documents do I need to drive a rental car in Canada?

if your a us citizen, you need a passport card $50 and 2- weeks wait time after applicarion. Quicker if you have a ticket/rental plans to travel soon. Air travel requires a passport $140 same wait time (check with your local library). Let your rental company and insurance know your plans so as not to be Featured on "Grand theft Auto" ;) kiddin!

I suggest you visit www.travel.gc.ca for information. I don't think they are favoring tourist travel right now. Only Canadians are being allowed back to Canada.

If you want to fly there you need ETA . Look up on net for eta form

Alternatively, why dont you renew your passport via the consulate in SFO. If you need one for emergency travel they can get you one very quickly.

How Old is your granddaughter, If say in grade school or younger something showing proof that you are her legal guardian and Birth certificate should be no problem .
