It was a wonderful trip with the children. Huge museum. It takes several hours to visit all exhibits. There are three floors; our favorite one was the upper floor, where you can see the dinosaurs. You can discover many things, including ancient Egypt, most animal species, gemstones, etc. Overall it was a pleasant experience; the Field museum was well organized, and very clean. Parking is a problem, so we used the bus. Recommended if you especially want to spend good time with family, friends..

I hadn't been since I was a child, but we decided to take the kids. It was wonderful. Great exhibits. We actually didn't finish it before the kids got tired and restless. We definitely plan to go back and look again! Literally amazing for adults too!!!! Not just children. The dinosaurs were our personal favorites.

The Field Museum is a must-see attraction. We spent about five hours here and we sped through a decent amount of the exhibits. There’s nothing that I can say here that will prepare you for the pure size of this place. So many exhibits just keep going and going. We had the City Pass which got us into all of the exhibits. We had a quick bite to eat at the cafe. There are a lot of vending machines and drinks available throughout. Wear comfy shoes because you will walk a lot!

What a treasure!!! Second time for me to visit as an adult, first time for my 8.5 yo. We spent ~ 2 hrs. Paid extra for ocean jurassic but an Illinois resident basic at $25 would be as good. Don't go on weekends or later in the day, it was a bit chaotic because they were setting up tables for an apparently huge event. All in all an amazing place to visit w kids! We will come back for sure. If you are visiting from outside state consider getting the city pass. Again the basic ticket is already getting you to a lot of exhibits. No need to purchase extras.

The field museum is free to all Illinois residents who show the ticket counter a Illinois state Id or drivers license for the whole month of febuary.
$3 discount on general admission
Basic admission is $24 for adults, $17 for children ages 3 to 11. Full access admission is $38 for adults and $27 for children. Discovery pass which is general admission plus 1 ticketed exhibit is $32 for adult and $23 for children.
Yes, we got a membership last week right at the door.
Yes. You can bring food with you. They have been trying to cut down on the number of people sampling the various animal exhibits and the 5000 year old Egyptian people-jerky. Allowing people to bring there own food has tremendously improved the museum's ability to preserve their artifacts. Make sure to bring sufficient napkins as the maps and pamphlets are not as absorbent as they appear.
It's $22 for an adult, even today when they close early. Adding Jurassic world is another $15.
Yes. They actually the most complete t rex Skelton every found. Her name is sue.
No, they have lockers but I don't think there are big enough for luggage
Yes you can. They have a lunch room downstairs in the basement. They have a lunch room where you have vending machines and you can eat down there. And they have a lunch room that has restaurant food. So yes you are able to take food with you to the field museum.
Only Active Military
Yes, but they have another accessible entrance for strollers and wheelchairs. If I recall correctly we didn't have to go through any metal detectors. I'm sure if you notified them of your medical implant you could pass the metal detector.
$23 for general admission. This doesn't get you into ALL exhibits. It's limited to the Nature Path and maybe a few other things.
There may be some parking around, I left the car home, and walked through the park.
The whole day, even with kids. Just got to be there when they open and expect to leave by the time they close. It's HUGEEEE
Tickets: All access pass Adults: $38 Kids(3-11) $27 Discovery pass Adults:$32 Kids(3-11) $23 Basic admission Adults $24 Kids (3-11) $17 Kids under 3 years old are free admission For Illinois residents only october 21,28 & 31 are free general admission 👍👍👍👍
For Illinois residents: Every Tuesday, 12:30 PM-9:00PM, January 15th, President's day, February 20th, March 4th & July 4th(Independence Day)
It's up and in the main lobby
Does depend on the weather, but I would think more than likely yes. I would check their Facebook or website for closings
As long as the line isn't long and they don't make you wait out in the tent you should be fine with a coat. I recommend it being one of the first things you do at the museum so it's not crowded and you don't have to wait in line to get in.
Monday is January 1, 2018 and is open. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 is open. Have fun.
Only for Ilinois residents. 2017 Free Admission Days: August 10, 28, 31 September 10, 11, 23, 24 October 9, 22, 23, 31 November 12, 19 December 3, 24
Tentatively they're saying in January for that and the shed museum, But of course it'll be a fluid situation
I don't know, but on the Museum's website you should mention it
Almost 40$ per adult,23$ illinois resident, and almost 20$ chicago resident
I was able to get in free as I have a membership at another museum that shares reciprocity.
Hey Beeetle, One of our most famous specimens, SUE the T. rex was bought at auction in 1997, read more about SUE here: fieldmuseum.org/blog/sue-t-rex. We also have over 150 scientists on staff that explore the furthest reaches of the planet for specimens including Antartica! Have a great day.
Yes, A 3D movie, a bug exhibit, and an exhibit about China are additional. You do not have to buy these and the are package deals.
You can try to find a spot on a regular street with no meter or permit parking but then you'd have to walk to the museum.
Yep,once u get there, they'll give u the free ticket and yes after,if u want to c stuff u have to pay like even the parking, before it was 20,now went up,30
The museum has a cafeteria where you can eat. I am not sure if it is allowed to bring food.
Yes it is open tomorrow:)
Yes, they provide a wheel chair free of charge on a first come first serve basis
18 ft. But looks taller if you're short
It is not as inexpensive as one would like to pay ; but, after a few minutes of browsing and pondering what zi saw-- the cost seem a small fee for the hige feast of learning and thinking tool for many days to come.. Keep up the Wonderful Eork ,Everyone at the field Museum. I appreciate All You DO. With Best Regards, S.C.K.Hubbard ✍
Well we park on the parking lot near the museum, we go o labors day and we pay $25 that price was until midnight... I'm not sure if it's that way on other days
Currently Wednesdays.
I agree with Ken and Carla. You would have to travel further north up the Mag. Mile to find some food options beside the cafe and hotdogs.
The things most people spend time on are the dinosaurs and Egypt. Probably an hour each. There are a lot more exhibits people seem to go through quickly or skip. You could spend 4-5 hours if you wanted to really look at everything
they have Maximo. he's quite the sauropod.
It only costs the ticket to enter (~ $ 20?). And you can see it before paying if you do not want to enter the museum.
I just visited a few weeks ago. I believe it was $25+ to park underground at the museum. I was on foot, so it didn't apply to me. I'd suggest parking in the neighborhood (Hyde Park) and walking a few blocks. You'll get to experience a lesser known part of the city. Cross under 57th Street and say hello to John, a homeless & harmless man who has a great view of the MSI!
The ticket costs 26 dollars per person, but if you are a student or elderly, it will cost 23
$25 for adults
There is no age limit for admittance. As long as someone knows how to buy a ticket or go through will call.
Yes, everything adds up to a lot. So plan properly.
Yes
I would say that overall it is more geared to those with longer attention spans. An adult could stay there for days on end and look at anything, but with kids like ours, I dont think they could handle it.
Every Tuesday from 12:30 to 9:00 p.m, but you need to bring your proof of residence (i.e. driver's license).
https://www.webbyawards.com/features/2019-nominees-social-media/
Yeah, I'd call and ask. It's worked for a friend in the past but don't know the actual rules.
No. It's at Science and Industry
All the basic admission exhibits and the special exhibits in session. Right now, the special exhibits include China and Mummies.
Seniors (65+)$33 http://www.fieldmuseum.org/visit.
Active duty, retirees, and reservists with proper ID can obtain free admission to the Field Museum.
According to their website: "Teachers from throughout Illinois (pre-K through 12th grade) receive free Basic admission."
It's 3.00 with the link card for basic admission
Apparently so, according to this blog: https://www.veteranaid.org/blog/2017/02/24/discounts-veterans-chicago/
ranges but look for the site spot hero pay 10$ for all day it's a little walk but worth the savings
It is no place to park near by. Try to park out side Downton and use subway
It would be the best to call them and check, but I believe groups are prone to discounts.
Yes they do but take advantage this month because it's free admission.
It's not. Discounted online rates available at all Millennium Garages. Rates include tax. The recommended garage is Grant Park South.
No!
The field museum is closed today January 31st
You should get into STEM fields in school... Check with your teachers about STEM classes, then contact the museum (or any museum you like.... There are "museum careers" websites to check for jobs). Ask about jobs but also ask about internships. On their website they have a job openings page (sometimes they have jobs for very beginners) and there's a separate page for internships: FieldMuseum.Org/about/careers/internships Start with volunteering and internships while you study in school... That way they can get to know you and they might give you a job in the future! Good luck!!! -ChicagoSeb
I'm not sure, but if I find out I'll let you know.
Hello sdultis $ 24 to 38 children $ 17 .. if you want other exhibitions pagsras a sdicionsl. There are temporary. The citypass tb is a good option. If you go to other lugsres you can choose willis tower. regards
You don't have to be 18 to purchase tickets. Also if you have a student ID you can get a discount.
No. Only buy your tickets there or online. If you are going to visit several places, see if the citypass suits you
Here you can find all the prices of admiration: http://www.fieldmuseum.org/visit
They do free admission for Illinois residents and the details are mentioned on their websites.
Parking is available with a fee of 20¯25USD.
I didnt ask that. But they have student discounts. And we bought city passes at 50% off for $100. Lots of activities with it!! Have fun
You can get buses frequently from willis tower / skydeck stop which is the nearest place of Union Station or by taxi.
Yes, until 5pm for Illinois residents.
Construction took almost six years to complete and cost approximately $7,000,000. The foundation alone took one year, and extends down 95 feet in some places. When it was first constructed, the building was made of 350,000 cubic feet of white Georgia marble and covered 20 acres of floor space. On May 2, 1921, the Field Museum was reopened to the public. Since that time, many additions have been made to the Museum’s floor plan, most notably the 2005 construction of the Collection’s Resource Center which added 186,000 square feet on two under-ground levels. The Museum’s exhibition space occupies over 480,000 square feet on the Ground, Main and Upper levels. Stanley Field Hall itself accounts for a half an acre of floor space, with a length of 300 feet and a width of 70 feet. The Hall’s floor is comprised of 300 million year old fossilized limestone.
Off of the website: "Special Offers Chicago Residents Residents who live within Chicago city limits can save $5 or more on the price of their ticket."
It is. In the future try purchasing your tickets online to shorten the wait. Be sure to check out the dinosaurs.
Maybe if it was in english i could answer....
For Illinois residents: Every Tuesday:12:30PM-9PM, January 15th, president's day, February 20th, March 4th & July 4th(Independence Day)
Gazuntite
Better you contact the authority directly.
For those of you who are not Americans or Chicagoans, I do not think
Set aside a whole day to really explore the whole museum fully.
Inside the museum just the companion dogs, like for people with some disability can be
We bought the Chicago go pass it was 154.00 for 2 days of whatever you can get in. There are 28 attraction included in the pass. We went to 9 in 2 days and the passes saved us 430.00
Yes there's underground parking for the entire museum campus. It's a bit pricy though.
It takes you at least a half day or more, but deserve it ...
Yes they can just keep your ticket with you to show the people who are checking :)
The mummies exhibit is great, the dinosaurs, African culture, Pyramids...everything is phenomenal. Worth every single penny if you enjoy museums.
Check out the website its either tues ir thrus is free for Illinois residence.. But u have ti bring proof. :-)
The dinosaur area appears to be a permanent display. Sue, the T-Rex, is being assembled in her own room.
Not Free but should get you a fairly significant Discount. Best bet is to call the museum directly
They will let you know 15 minutes before they close the entire museum. They will usually let you finish whatever exhibit you are currently in and will close paid exhibits 30 min before the museum closes.
The titanosaur is in the main hall and the T-Rex is now in the dinosaur exhibit both are included in basic admission.
It is not, it looks like there are no more free days at The Field this year.
Exact Opposite to field museum (soldier field stadium) or drive to shedd aquarium parking
I think yes it is
Free passes usually allow basic admission but don't include special exhibits going on. The representative at the ticket counter will be able to confirm.
As I know on Thursday, but you must be a resident of Illinois.
Free days.
The next available one is June 20th. Their website lists all upcoming events, including free days.
There is a senior discount (65 or older) but I am not sure about the disability discount.
Is the most complete fossil yet! Really a magnificent thing to see
Yes you can
Really pays to become members if you live in the Chicago area or want to support a great institution. A model of the largest dinosaur just was installed last week. Enjoy!
June 20 -22 for IL residents
Right now: East Coast:1:07 am Central time:12:07 am Pacific time:10:07 pm (East coast is an hour ahead of the central section of the United States & The Western half is two hours behind the central section)
Its $27 for kids aged 3-17 for an all access pass. Basic admission is $17.
$3 per piece, stroller, bag, coat. Makes life easier!!
As per their website, "Open 9am – 5pm every day except Christmas"
Periodically changing the arts. Recenty seen persons may help you probably.
Museums should be free like in London.
I take Chicago cityPass, because i had seen several places by useing the pass including field museum, art museum, skydeck, science museum and so on....
$8 for kid, $12 for adult.
Well Lao, my family and I we spent 4 hours at museum, 10 am till 2 pm. I really don't know about this question. But i think that's no extra charges during the time the museum is open. Best regards
It's an exhibit based on the movie.
Exhibit with fossils from multiple periods of Life on Earth. The most complete fossil of any dinosaur, named Sue, is here. She may be still being moved, but you may call ahead and ask if she is on display again yet.
I think so.
Nope, the Underground and China exhibits are there now.
I would suggest calling them
Around 6 hours
9am-5pm but... "New Years Eve might effect these hours"
January February and June check it on the museum page
Check with the information desk. I'm sure they will arrange for a special tour. I would recommend to call them ahead
Yes, but they ask that you only eat outside food and drinks in a designated cafeteria on the Ground Floor.
Hi, I took pictures with my phone the whole time I just didn't use flash to avoid any problem, I have to say I don't know if that is actually prohibited or not (the use of flash), but what is for sure is that you can take pictures.
I don't remember exactly, but I think the underground lot (which is parking for the museum, aquarium, planetarium and Soldier Field) is around $20.
Yes they do
Not necessarily. You can also purchase in the museum itself.
You can check bags, but you are allowed to keep them with you as well .
The hours depends because of Columbus Day maybe until 4pm they close I believe.
Go right when they open. You can even find low cost street parking on the road leading to the planetarium that early. Most parents opt to bring families later so it gets really packed by noon or after.
Yes plus a spare
$8 for Children, $12 for adult.
If you are going there on basic admission plus Jurassic exhibit, it would be $37 per adult and $25 for children between 3&11. If you want an all-access pass plus the Jurassic exhibit, it would be $51 for the adults and $35 for the child. You also have an option of evening Jurassic world only, which costs $25 for adults and $20 for the child. You can plan your travel on their website as well
Tickets are I believe 22 dollars if you purchase them online. That's just general admission. The extra stuff cost more.
Yes, they are on permanent display
Thanks. I'll let you know after my visit.
No, but they did hold some events at night for some kind of celestial event-i just cant remember what it was
It's a discounted price for students but free for IL residents on Mondays and Thursdays.
