Great place for a quick or long camping trip with anyone. Good hikes, great beach, perfect bathrooms, and all you could ask for in a camping site.

We love to camp and fish here. The campground is smaller but neat, wooded and semi private. The showers were hot and clean. I highly recommend, although there is little to no cell phone reception unless you go up the service road near site 27/28.

We stopped by the Trout Pond Recreation Area for hiking in March. We were bummed to see that the front gate was closed and not due to open until April 1. However, we noticed a parking lot to the left of the front gate where other cars had parked. From there, you can take the blue trailhead to hike into the park without going through the front gate. It was a trail that wound back and forth along the side of the mountain to get down to the pond. (It could be difficult for some people to get back up if hiking on an incline is hard for you.) We were able to do this hike easily with a 9 year old and it only took about 10-15 minutes to do so. Once we were at the pond, we had beautiful views and the whole park to ourselves. My son enjoyed looking at the hundreds of salamanders in the water along with crayfish and frogs. If you have a chance, hike around the whole pond -it's stunning. There is a small sandy beach area that seems like it would be open for swimming in the summer months. We'd like to come back to experience that part as well.

Good hiking from the fisherman's trail down to the lake. Wear your hiking boots, there are a few rocks to climb over.
