There's not many challenging trails in the metro area in my opinion. If you're looking for a good hour hike, try out this scenic circuit on the South Side. Park in the Reedy Creek Landing lot and take the bridge and go across the street. Take the trail to the left up the hill. Going counterclockwise will be the best route. You may need to improvise near the creek. Don't cross the creek the first time, but take the stone stairs up and loop back where you just came from and return along the creek. When you arrive at the creek crossing, step the rocks and continue to the other side. The second half of the course is softer under foot with more tightly enclosed trails. It even winds itself up to the former farmers market, then back down into the woods , across the cement viaduct. Turn left back to the trail head. It's really is a great hike.

Gorgeous park. I was visiting Richmond and this was on one of the attractions list and it makes total sense. It’s huge and there are so many areas to walk, sit around, take pictures, run, work out, see nature, or there were a couple of people rock climbing. There were some turtles in the water when we went which was so cute! The walkways were very wide and had space for multiple parties to share the road. There’s a lot of elevation which makes for a great run or bike ride. There are also some flat areas.

It's a really nice park and the trails are great. The little gazebo down by the lake was being used for all kinds of holiday and family pictures today. There's also some great geocaching adventure here. I visited in December, but it was 70° and there were people everywhere enjoying the park

Yes. Near the main parking lot in the building alongside 42nd street.
Yes...you can fish. I imagine there's small mouth & sunfish...
You can bring lawn chairs, etc, so I don't see any reason why you couldn't bring a portable one.
Yes you may book for eventa through parks and recreation.
Yes. This park and its trails connect into James River Park at Reedy Creek (including Buttermilk Trail). Trails are closer to Riverside Drive, not Forest Hill Road.
