GREAT!! A must do for families and individuals. Make sure you buy your tickets online and check in and pickup your boarding pass before boarding the train. We had to wait for several people to get off the train and go do this. The staff are friendly and Charles the Conductor provided full time education and entertainment. Thank you to him, Doug the engineer and George the steam guy(maintained the steam was at the right levels to keep the engine going). The tour was about 90 minutes and they take you through the beautiful Coastal Redwood trees hundreds of years old. They let you get off for about 8 minutes while they prepare the train for the return ride. The roots of these magnificent trees could go for thousands of years. The information provided on the regeneration of these trees and their ability to be fire retardant was fascinating. They offer a place to recharge with food, drinks and ice cream. Overall an excellent experience! It’s pricey like $100 for 2 adults and parking but worth it!

We took the dinner and night train trip special event package. The evening started with a steak, beans, corn on the cob and salad dinner, followed by apple pie. The dinner was better than I expected, but it would be nice to have a non steak choice. During dinner there was a great country and western band playing. Then, country western dance lessens. At 8P we boarded the train which was pulled by a vintage steam locomotive. The trip through the very tall redwood and pine trees, under a clear, moon-lit night was amazing. When the train got to the top of the ridge, we were greeted by a singing and playing guitar cowboy. Hot apple cider was served. After about 20 minutes or so, we headed back to camp. Overall, this was a great experience and I feel I learned some California history as we went along the rails. Highly recommended.

Great place for families! We did the steam engine through the redwoods. We sat in the first car and it was great!!! You were able to have an unobstructed view since you sit in the middle and no one is in front of you. Make sure your little ones go to the restroom before the ride, otherwise you will spend your 10 minute break in the restroom line instead of enjoying the scenery and exploring. The guide was comical and had some good info. But don't worry, he doesn't talk the entire time! The BBQ place was closed, and the other food place didn't have a good selection of kids meals, which was surprising. The general store had all the souvenirs even little tiny redwood trees to take home and plant.

A wonderful day. We took the train through the redwoods down to the beach in Santa Cruz - and it stops right by the boardwalk. Definitely worth getting the 10am train there, and the 4pm return - so you have lots of time to do the rides at the boardwalk. It’s also fantastic watching the train make its way down the roads of Santa Cruz.

Yes, strollers, outside food and drinks are allowed. There are lots of great picnic areas all over the grounds that are available. The parking lot is close, but is a short walk to the depot buildings and trains. The entrance fee to park is about $10.
Yes! Well behaved dogs of any size are allowed on both the Boardwalk and Forest steam trains. The Roaring Camp grounds are also dog friendly! We just took our two pitbulls on the Steam train a couple weeks ago. I recommend sitting in the very last car on each train as there is more room for them and not usually as packed with people. Bring your own water and bowl for them too.
They are round trip rides. If you go from Roaring Camp to the beach make sure you are back on time or you will be left behind!
Yes, very much so. They had 2 wheelchair lifts on the route we took. I would venture there are 2 lifts per route.
Yes you have to pay $10 parking......
I think yes. ... our seatmate has a dog with her. ...
I'm not sure. Today it was at 3:30 pm. Give them a call. The number is on their website. Great experience animal and child friendly. We had a wonderful time and took the steam train ride as well.
From 11 am to 2 pm there are trains every 45 mins. You can check it in thier website
Absolutely. They loaded on a wheelchair when I was riding last month. They have a special lift to get people on the cars in wheelchairs.
It should be since it's almost an hour train ride and also staff is very friendly. I will still recommend to check with them via calling their number.
I could see they have a nice food cafeteria to order food. I didn't see any food fare while visited on Easter train.
Yes. There were two dogs on the train in the same car as me and my boyfriend. Half way through the trip there was one stop as well 👍🏼
Yes......daily
I believe so. Management there is very understanding
Yeah not on the train. 🐶
No, I didn't see any evidence of the fires. It was as beautiful as ever in the area around Roaring Camp.
Right now they are closed because of all the fires nearby. Im not sure if pets are allowed or not. When I was there a few weeks ago I dont remember seeing anything saying no pets allowed. But then again I wasn't paying attention
Officially 1hour up, 1 hour layover and 1 hour back, for a Total of 3 hours.
I don't think food and drink is allowed on the train other than water. You can bring your own food and drink to eat at picnic tables or you can buy food and drink to eat at picnic tables. I don't believe they sell alcohol.
Saw a wedding setup a couple weeks ago. Didn't see any parking other than regular public parking for the Camp.
There is a $10 parking fee at the roaring camp in addition. It's totally worth it though.
It runs just two times in the operational day.
The rise takes about 15 minutes to the top. There's a 10 minute break, then 15 minutes back down.
Yes it does and they sell rain gear too!😁👍
It stops right in front of the boardwalk. This is Google Maps. Check with Roaring Camp about the timetable. Have a fantastic time!
Depends on the size of the equipment, on the train the space is not so reduced, but the best thing is that someone takes the equipment separately. I hope the information helps, greetings.
I would call them and make sure.
Yes, Germans will enjoy the train ride too.
Absolutely! Dogs are allowed on all trains!
Yes they are. I've taken my dog before and there was no problem.
You can also Goggle Roaring Camp for info. They have a website also.
Melissa is right, but there are always deals on Groupon.
Hi Chris, please ignore the previous answer as it is incorrect. I have been going to roaring camp for many years, and I can tell you with certainty that the train does indeed stop at the top of the hill, but you can stay up there for indefinite amount of time. There is TONS of hiking that can be done from that spot. You do not need to make it back to the same train that dropped you off, but you just need to make sure that you make it back before the final train of the day departs. If you miss the final train, it is an easy walk back down the mountain. Also, while you are at the top, the train that took you up there does stop for about 20-30 minutes while the conductor gives you some history of the surrounding redwoods. If you plan on hiking and taking another train down the mountain, just let them know. Henry Cowell state park is also right next door with beautiful trails
The trains run in the rain. They have pop up canopies on the trains for the cars that aren't covered. Despite this, I highly suggest waiting til the rain clears, it is a completely different experience being able to go on a nice clear, warm day
It is the slow season, but I would go in and ask
RC very rarely cancels any scheduled events and Rides. Christmas brings Santa to Bear Mountain! And Rainforest Weekends start January and are so much fun on the Steamers! Don't let the weather stop you. The trees block you from pouring rain and usually most cars have a soft top roof and sides but you're bound to get a little wet. The weather must be extreme wind and or rain from what I've experience last Fall and Winter. You may call the Station anytime or view Facebook to message Roaring Camp morning of. Bring a poncho, waterproof shoes and layer your clothes as the Forest is relatively different weather from their wonderful park....don't forget to stop for an Herbal Tea or Hot Chocolate at Georgies Outdoor covered family style restaurant. Christmas shopping in the General Store where you can pick up your tickets and buy a rain poncho if needed. I hope this helps ya. I Love ROARING CAMP - oh ya parking is ten bucks but is included in their Aluminum Annual pa
The regularly scheduled train rides are (per their brochure): Redwood Forest Steam Train 1hr 15 min round trip Santa Cruz Beach Train 3hr round trip
I went the beach side train 2 weeks back. It Was pleasant
Google maps is not the place to ask this... Go to their website and contact them directly.
They did not ask for ID when we bought the rail ticket. We just mentioned the number of seniors adults kids.
