We adopted Rudy the yellow tripod boy and we love him so much he even plays fetch. He doesn't know he is a tripod. From the cleanliness of the shelter to the friendly knowledgeable staff. This place is amazing.

They are not quite a no kill shelter yet. I took a mama cat and her kittens in that were left behind when a family moved out of their house because it was condemned. I really hope they find good homes for them. She was such a sweet cat and seemed very concerned for her kittens the whole ride over. I am a dog person with dogs that don’t like cats or I would have tried to help her more. But they seemed like they were going to help her. I am trying to coax the daddy cat out of the house to take him in too.

I've seen commercials about these awesome dog's that needed "loving homes" and also had same day adoptions... Either the shelter or the advertisements are misleading. None of this was true. I have epilepsy and just wanted a dog of any kind because any animal can sense something wrong with a individual. By the way the dog I would've gotten would have a 5 acre playground area. Only Kansas residents can adopt Kansas stray dog's.

This place was amazing .I lost my dog on my son's birthday, she ran off, three days after that I finally decided to call the human society and see if by chance someone had found my Mocca, I have the wonderful assistant answering the phone my information, she told me they had one dog that fit her description but the best way was to come check for myself, needless to say, after wondering if I was ever going to get my babygirl back, thank God for the Humane Society... They had her, they got her caught up on all of her shots which was amazing as well, and now my babygirl is back with her family.....love 💕 her to pieces ... It is my wish that all the animals they have be adopted , we all need love, they are very good at giving it to our furry friends, but they need help, if your looking for a lost pet or looking for a new addition to your family, The Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka Kansas should definitely be on the list ....thanks you guys...

U can call and ask. They can tell u what they have. Sometimes there are animals they havent checked in yet
If I am between living quarters can I bring dog for a short term but not for adoption I can pay for that service it would be a month or less
Way to go saving another creature in need unfortunately I have to tell you you would have to ask them I'm not aware of specific animals keep up the good work
Yes...for the most part. They do only if it absolutely medically necessary and if the animal can't pass an assessment or if the animal is overly aggressive and they can't work with it. (It's not adoptable ) But they try really hard to get it adoptable first.
Please visit them there are options. Price is always depends on dogs. Buy you will find some good ones
Yes they were short staffed but no patience doesn't help any situation. They answered our questions when we asked & kept us informed. Couldn't ask for more than that.
I know they have in the past in some circumstances. Fill out an adoption profile online to have paperwork done and call to speak with an adoption counselor.
Hello Chere, we do occasionally get Yorkshire Terriers in, but we don't keep a running list of interested parties. What we recommend is to regularly check our website and browse the adoptable pets we have: https://www.hhhstopeka.org/adopt/adoptable-pets/ We also recommend searching by size versus specific breed as many of the pets we get are mixes and so they may have the physical traits you are interested in, but not classified as the specific breed.
Call animal control and file a complaint.
I'd call to find out what their guidelines are just to be sure.
On the website, http://www.hhhstopeka.org/adopt/adoptable-pets/
We're open from 11:30am-6pm for adoptions on Saturdays! We make sure our pets have as many of the typical vaccinations your vet would give as we can (meaning sometimes they are too young or haven't been with us long enough to get *all* of the recommended vaccinations because you must wait in between boosters). We'll give you those medical records when you adopt! Also, now ALL of our adoptable pets are already spayed/neutered when they come up for adoption (unless there is some medical reason they cannot/should not be fixed). Thanks for planning to adopt at HHHS!
They keep it until he animal is adopted, if it doesn't get adopted in this area they'll send it to another shelter. They will put the animal down if the animal is "not adoptable", meaning it is too aggressive with food, other animals and/ or people, but they do try to work with the animal first, putting it down is a LAST RESORT. Another reason is if the animal is badly injured and there is no chance in it surviving its injuries.
Yes, they would love for you to come go in and see what fur- babies they have!!
If you have a good reason why you were not able to keep.the pup before you should be able. Most adoption places would rather you surrender the pup than have it relieved or abused. Thank to them it well worth a shot. In my situation I had to turn a pup over that was not mine it would put me over the limit for my area. Then when one had passed on I was able to adopt with no issues
Best to call and talk to them directly b/c sometimes they have "specials".
YES, just call there and if they don't do the public they can probably reference you some place reasonable
Absolutely! I am sorry to hear about the loss of your precious family member. We can use many things from toilet paper rolls to old blankets and towels, beds, cat trees, carriers, crates etc. Plastic bags. Newspaper and pet foods treats litter etc. Thank you so much for thinking of Helping Hands!
Hello Steven! Our hours for adoptions, lost & found, admissions are 11:30am-6pm Monday-Saturday and 1pm-5pm. Our Community Clinic hours are 7:30am-4pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday! Thank you for asking we hope to see you!
No
Hi Madison - cats who were adopted from HHHS are just $10 to be microchipped. Pets not adopted from us are $40 to microchip (a one-time fee and we will register it for you). Sometimes we will run specials with less expensive microchips; I don't believe we have any scheduled yet, but keep an eye on our Facebook page for any announcements.
Hello Michelle! Thank you for thinking of us and reaching out. Please call our admissions office at 785-233-7325, ask for intake, and they'll be able to talk to you on if we are able to admit them or if they need to go to KS Wildlife!
You will need to call them, they don't generally respond on here as this is just Google maps.
Hi Corey, adoptable pets are listed on our website: http://www.hhhstopeka.org/adopt/adoptable-pets/ We recommend checking it regularly as new animals come up for adoption every single day! This way you can stay up to date for when a particular breed comes available. Adoption fees for dogs are generally $250 for puppies 6 months or less, $150 aged 7 months to 6 years, and 7 years+ are $75. However, there are factors that can change this such as adoption sponsorships, adoption specials, and high profile pets! Thanks for your interest :)
Hello Brett, thank you for reaching out to us!! The best thing to do is call us at 785-233-7325 and ask for Intake (or Admissions). They'll be able to get some background information from you and walk you through our current process.
I bet if you took it to the lost and found side of Help Hands they would take it as a stray.
Hello Tonyalynn, we are so sorry to hear of your stolen dog! By all means get in touch with our lost/found department. You can reach us at 785-233-7325. If your dog is microchipped, they would call the number registered on the chip to let you know. Otherwise, check back in frequently!
Hello Peace Love, we don't post pictures of the animals that come in through our admissions (due to privacy as well as the sheer numbers we see). Our website features photos of adoptable animals. If you are looking for a specific animal, you can contact our lost and found department and submit a photo or description. We do offer the opportunity for people to come in in person and walk through the stray hold areas with a staff to view the animals in person if someone suspects their lost pet may be at the shelter. Thank you!
$50-$150 Puppies are usually $100-$150. They are great at having adoption specials for dogs.
Please do give us a call first at 785-233-7325 to schedule an appointment to bring them in. This helps ensure we are ready for you and you don't have to wait during a busier time!
I agree with Mr Geoff Harrison. You can call and ask...the adoption counselors are frequently up to their eyeballs helping pets get connected with their forever homes. They do a good job. Or you can check the website. For best selection it is best to visit early in day on regular basis. Work it...you'll find your precious.
I think they do take volunteers
I agree with Jacqueline's answer. Try to call them and see what they can do. Additionally, she might try calling local vet's. Several are willing to work out payment arraignment's.
You can go to the website or in the front main lobby, they have a pamphlet case with other information as well. Thanks for Including Helping Hands and supporting the shelter.
You'll have to ask them. The amounts vary monthly.
Mostly Domestic Shorthairs.
We don't now, but we do hope to be able to as part of our 2020 vision.
Of course you can, depending on where you live there may be a small fee, but they have very good, dedicated employees and an army of volunteers to make sure all animals have the best life possible while in helping hands care. If you walk in the main lobby it says on the wall "the second best home your pet well ever have" and everyone involved does their best to live that standard every day. If I personally moved away from Topeka and then had to give up my dog I would cone back here to take him to helping hands. I volunteer there when I'm able,I've seen all of the behind the scenes that the general public doesn't, and I can assure you every animal there is well taken care of and has the best possible life a shelter can give them.
Yes I am not sure if they charge I do know they will work with you and do everything they can to help you and make sure the animals are safe and cared for
I agree you should call them and ask. Sometimes someone will sponsor an animal and you can get it for free or the adoption fee is reduced
I dont believe they do. If they did it would be rarely ever.
Im a volunteer at HHHS. I asked one of the mentors about it before. They said that the classes are for the animals they take into the shelter, not really for the public.
Its a credit card that allows you to pay the vet bill.you can get care credit in Different ways. I would suggest applying on line.
Call them i don't knie
Yes, you can drop animals off...how unfortunate you have to give away your dog. Helping hand will find a loving home for your dog.
I'm not quite clear on what exactly you need help with.
By all means take them to Helping Hands. They will be taken care of and found a home, you will be doing the right thing. Thank you
Not sure about these other answers... Ive taken two cats and one dog there (all stray/lost) and it was an extremely easy and free process. All they ask is where you found them and your contact info. Then they take the animal and hold it for a few days (can't remember the exact time). If the owner doesn't call or show, the animal will be prepped for adoption. Edit: The total time you'll be there is 15 minutes at the absolute max.
If you apply for a care credit credit card, Banfield pet hospital at petsmart takes that card and they have great veterinarians.
No
Yes they do.
I think you can just call and be placed on the volunteer list
"Research shows that felines can relieve stress and lower blood pressure, and studies have found that the hormone oxytocin is released when we're around pets, triggering feelings of happiness. With results like these, it's no wonder therapy cats are often taken to hospitals, nursing homes, schools and even prisons."
Call and ask. Usually intake wont tell you anyway they make you visually check in person. They dont monitor this.
I am not sure, maybe try calling Helping Hands?
I know your question is old but maybe my answer will help someone else. If Stone House Animal Hospital is still open, they will hold strays for you. The humane society will then come pick them up the next morning. I'm not familiar with any other places that will hold an animal. If you can't find any other place, it'll be up to you to hold the animal until the next day.
