I recommend you bring them in case the parking area or roads are too much to handle. It is still a mountain pass with snow. Keep a snow shovel and other traction aids ready as well as food, water, a change of clothes and blankets in your vehicle. If you're unsure of your ability to navigate the pass during inclimate weather, do not go.
Always carry chains if you don't have traction tires
Not at the moment but if it snows that can change quickly. Note that All Wheel Drive vehicles are supposedly exempt from needing chains. We can't even put them on our 2016 Subaru. We carry snow socks for cars just in case.
