Just a stunning place. Loved the hike in. About 10.5 miles of fairly level trail. A decent amount of shade. Campsites have a lot of shade, lake and mountain views. Beware of horse poo and bugs.

Yeah I observed. Bear droppings on my hike too diamond lake.after the hike past diamond lake about 5 miles I saw a carcass of an elk picked cleaned. But never saw any other traits or physically evidence of bears or mountain. Lions. I would take the salmon la sac trail way easier and more populated also by a river for easy access to water.
There's quite a few campsites. Coming in from the Salmon La Sac trail head, the west side of Waptus Lake has 2 campgrounds. Then on the east side (you need to cross the river), there are 2 large camp grounds, and a couple smaller ones scattered near the shore. No reservations needed - first come first served.
