Do not hike alone!
If you are inexperienced with the climate, terrain and wildlife, you should definitely hike with a group. Just tag along with others. I do it all the time.
You shouldn't go hiking alone because of safety. It's better to hike with a group because of bears and also if you were to fall or injured. They do have group hikings. August is a great time to go. We go every year in mid July. If you are going, get a room reserved immediately. We stay in Apgar Village in the park by the West entrance but we reserve at least a year in advance. There are numerous places to stay but we like staying in the cabins inside the park. No driving miles to get there every day. They have different levels of hiking difficulties for all ages. It's beautiful and you wont regret going.
Hi Rhonda! We just got back from a week in Glacier. August is good if you want the "sun" road through the park to be fully open and most of the winter snow melted off. Otherwise, You have to drive all the way around the park to see whatever side you aren't on. Earlier in the season will have more snow flows to explore, but harder to see the actual glaciers. Whitefish is a nice little town to explore. The Army/Navy store there has bear spray for 25-29 bucks. Cheapest we found. Also, go eat at the Buffalo Cafe. The trails are pretty populated unless you plan to do back country back packing. I would still find a hiking buddy if possible. Just the safer way to go. If not, definitely download and fill out a day hike form (I apologize, I don't have a link), and leave it with the front desk of wherever you plan on staying. Doesn't take long, and if something were to happen, at least they would know where to start looking for you. Might seem over cautious, but better than death in the woods!
Never hike alone! Find a buddy! There are lots of meetups for hikes in Glacier.
Thats a ues from me, I would also recommend the bear mace. You can get it inside/around the park. I would avoid trails less travelled unless your prepared for overnight hiking, and a good camera.
yes it is perfectly safe if you carry bear spray and i recommend putting bear bells on your back pack ðŸ¤
The teails are full of people but bring bear spray to be safe. I am i. My 50s and would feel safe hiking there.
Yes, I think it's safe. August is a good time, especially if you travel to higher altitudes...less snow. Days are very warm but evenings cool down nicely.
Hiking alone would be safe but i would reccomend going with others or at least bringing bear spray
