Extremely elusive this time of year
A friend if mine went riding over the weekend and saw one ran right out in front of them and ran off
I've been out several days in Shenandoah, most recently over Thanksgiving, & have not yet seen any. People see them all the time tho. Just be aware, make some noise, & don't leave bear snacks laying around to attract them
Not really elusive because they are feeding big time for winter.
In the ranger station in Shenandoah, it says the black bears there do not hibernate. Some locals told us they see in all seasons. We did not see them in November.
Winter, bears hibernate. I have never been bothered by a black bear, I say when hiking " shu bear " out loud so they know I'm coming. Once in Yellowstone a huge grizzly bear real across the road right in front of me. Because I drive the speed limit I didn't hit it. The bear was Hugh.
I Didn't see any
I couldn't spot any during my trip last month.
You will see them.. More in the winter since less people and cars. Don't feed them and watch for momma bear.
They are highly elusive during winters.
