I think the best time to take small kids would be any time outside of 12-1 on a weekday. It is a very popular restaurant (for good reason, amazing cheese grits!) And a lot of business workers eat lunch there during the week, so it can feel crowded.

Reservations are required due to understaffing. The outdoor rooftop dining area permitted us to eat at the bar. I would call them first. Outdoors was a casual environment indoors was more formal
