Yes, it is very safe. I was very impressed with the rest area. They do have signs up saying you can't be there longer than 8 hours but I don't think they are that strict. This area is very well lit, lot of fire hydrants, for dogs of course. It's a very nice visitors center, rest area, and a gift shop opened during the day. Extremely safe! Very very nice place.
