Nothing, I think. Its disgusting that a national treasure like the Big U is being left to rot when we burn so much money elsewhere. They could easily afford to polish her up and repurpose her.

Not a lot

I don't believe the U.S.Government is involved in any way as far as considering providing any substantial funding the ship really needs to keep it from it's ongoing deterioration. There's only the Conservancy organization dedicated to maintaining its condition at least as stable as possible in hopes of preventing any further deterioration. The ship is in very poor condition & although it still has many interior rooms & features surviving the asbestos & other potentially dangerous materials cleanup & removal, its only a shell of its original glory now and rusting away faster than the Conservancy can keep in check. What the S.S.United States needs is a "sugar daddy" that takes a personal interest in the ship & cares enough to have a "money is no obstacle" attitude... someone with the financial resources & desire to if not completely restore the ship,at least stabilize it for perhaps tourism & give it the real TLC it needs! Problem is : the ship is SO DAMN BIG!!! Dockage fees are HUGE...
