Not on the beach, there are some camp grounds around though.

Ya i believe that's a NO! Although it would be awesome ....except those little crabs come out at night.
There is no camping on the beach only in the designated campgrounds. There's one just north of Oregon Inlet which is very close to the beach. There's also one at the Point near the lighthouse. There is also one on Ocracoke Island.
Only where it says, "camping permitted," which is not on the beach itself, but there is a campsite literally right beside it.
There are designated campgrounds in Outer Banks but not on the Cape Hatteras beach..
