If you have booked with Hilton directly you have a better chance. Also if you have Hilton honors status you can explain and they may help. Always book with them directly. Maybe they will help you with a future stay
Many hotel front desk, in hotel sales, will comp you with a free nite, later on.
It depemds if you bought it directly through the hotel or through one of the websites like expedia, or kayak, hotwire, etc... It can be a different policy depending on where you bought it. I would contact the company you used. When purchased directly through Hilton, you can usually cancel your hotel stay between 48 and 72 hours before check-in.
