How long after choosing a kitten would I have to wait before taking them home? And also I'm planning on adopting one the week before Thanksgiving so how would that timing work around the holidays, including fees for keeping them there extra days?

We're not going out of town for Thanksgiving, we're doing it specifically on that weekend so we have enough time to introduce the new kitten to our current cat. Also I already talked to someone there about boarding them and they say they keep them up to 3-5 days after they're ready to go home and it's a certain amount of money for each day but I forgot. But thanks for letting me know when they get spayed!

You choose whatever day you cone in, but they take a do the spays/neuters on cats on Wednesdays. I don't know if you pick them up next day (Thursday). Probably best plan is wait until AFTER Thanksgiving. That way you don't have to kennel your kitty at your vet while you leave town, if you plan that because, no, Austin Humane Society cannot kennel your kitty extra days for you. They have to make room for incoming animals they get in weekly, some are adult cats that are harder to adopt. If you are able, consider adooting an older cat. Also, consider if you already have pets, just how a new pet will fit in. AHS does ask you this when you come in to adopt. They want the adoption to be a success for you and the new cat as well as any other members of your household.
