We would like to go this weekend but are unsure of what arrival time will be. Will we have problems getting a tour if we do not purchase tickets until arrival?

Definitely get a tour. It is huge, confusing, and takes hours of walking.

They open more tours during the summer. You will be able to get a tour, but I reccomend you reserve ahead of time so you dont have to wait in line.

We went the Sunday before memorial day this year. We got our tickets upon arrival at the main building...lots of helpers stationed around to help. A good number of people, but it's a huge park. (Our first time so I can't really judge) Definitely do the hop on/hop off tour, this is what we did...and still did a good bit of walking around. Lots to hear, see and learn.

No

You need about 4hrs to see the place.

I would strongly encourage getting a tour before hand. Weekends are very busy and exploring alone can be overwhelming.
