There is one spot we 36 stairs steps. They are even and an easy climb and there was no rush at all. Most of the tour is very easy access. You ride down the shaft straddling a train car. Even with my bum knee i was able to climb on the car and up the steps.
Depending on the lady, she could. You don't have to do the stairs. Unless she is terribly frail, she could probably handle the ride.
There are about 36 steps to climb, but I think you may be able to wait downstairs as I saw a bench. Also, getting on and off the mine cart train requires you to swing your leg over from a straddle position. Once you get off the cart and walk, you may have to squeeze between the tunnel and cart, watching out for the metal tracks. The ground itself is hard and sure. If you can stand at her side while walking it may be fine. Also try and get on to the first cart (the front train cart) when entering the mine. That way there's less walking to and from the viewing areas and usually you stop clear of the tunnel so you dont have to squeeze through. Walkway areas and open spaces are well lit. Hope that helps.
No, I would not take someone that elderly. The walking is not a lot but you have to navigate getting on and off the rail-carts a couple times and 2 flights of stairs. The ground is clear and stable, but it might be more stressful for the person having to do it in the dark with a head lamp only.
There is one flight of stairs (which could be optional) but otherwise most paths are very flat. If she had a cane or someone going with her that she can hold onto if she loses her balance she should be ok. The darkness of the mine would probably be worse for her than the type of surfaces. The "train" you ride also requires you to step over the bench seat with one leg so that might require a helper too.
I would advise against it
I'm not sure. She would have to sit straddled on a cart into the mine. There are 3 to 4 flights of stairs in one portion of the tour. I'm not sure if she could stay behind at the cart for that or not.
I did the tour with a cane due to a recent fall. The worst part of the tour for me, (back and leg issues) was getting on and off of the train. It's like getting on a horse. You can sit and swing forward, or lift you far side leg backward. If she's an active 90, there shouldn't be an issue. If she's a more frail 90, I wouldn't push it. Where the stairs are, they give the option to stay by the train and a bench on which to to relax.
If you don't want to do steps, 1 of tour guides will wait with you at the train.
The tour guides offered us to stay back at the rail car if we choose not to walk up the steps, or in to one of the tunnels. I don't see why she couldn't do the tour. Just sit on the mine cart with her while it's moving, and then give her the option to stay with one of the tour guides at the mibe cart when everyone else walks away.
