To apply for Italian Citizenship, you were asked to call a number that is a collect call, talk as fast as possible, but then, they give you a year and a half to get all the documentation together before the interview. You need to get everything translated, apostilled into italian. You can only use translation companies from a list that the consolate approves of. I would also suggest joining Italian American web forums to get advice from people who know about the process.
Go on the Consulate's website https://consnewyork.esteri.it/consolato_newyork/en/i_servizi/per-i-cittadini/cittadinanza. Go to the page in English, if you feel more comfortable. Go to the paragraph titled Iure Sanguinis (by descent). Don't forget my name when it will come to translating the documents 😊, I am on their translators list.
How did you get the number to call? I'm a Canadian living in NYC wanting to apply for Italian citizenship by birth through my great-grandfather who did not naturalize. In Canada official documents are translated and authorized in the juristiction issued by designated individuals. Each jurisdiction seems to have different rules. You must apply for Italian citizenship in the jurisdiction you live-which for me is NYC. I need to know the the Rules in NYC in order to star the process. difficult to get info.
