Traveling to Liberia directly from the US with an ECOWAS passport requires a Visa. However, you don't need to pay. Just apply and send your passport to the Embassy and you will get a Liberian Visa on gratis.
You do not need a Visa to travel in West Africa, you only need to possessed a ECOWAS Liberian issued passport. Now, if you are an American citizen, you definitely will need a Visa, and immunization record.
