Unless you're military serving overseas you're not eligible for an extension past the expiration. If you are caught you could face up to $1000 fine or 90 days in jail, though possibly only a $100 fine. If you're trying to renew after the license has expired you'll likely have to retake the tests, etc. If you plan to drive with an expired license and the vehicle you're driving is registered under your name then a cop just running random license plates may catch you. Not worth the risk in my opinion.
